I can't speak for everyone, but I consider myself more of an Enthusiast as opposed to a Collector (I can be pretty oblivious huh...). When I joined the Forum, I (only) had two Electras, but this last year my obsession has really mushroomed. I used to buy one guitar OR one amp a year, and I was perfectly happy with that. But something really clicked this past year and I haven't regretted EAS.... yet. Keep in mind that all five of those guitars together wouldn't even buy you a Vintage 70's Fender (arguably some of their worst offerings!). The only bad part is trying to keep decent strings on them!

I'll never be able to get as many as I'd like, but that's kind of the idea behind this forum... to be able to be see (and learn about) nice examples without opening up your wallet. ElectraFest was that idea in three dimensions, to hold and play guitars that you wouldn't otherwise be able to... can't wait until next year, Mike.

I've thankfully been able to control most of my "acquisition syndromes", cars are still an issue, but I'm getting better.
I consider myself an enthusiast 1st and a collector 2nd. I enjoy playing my guitars, but at the same time, I want something unique and in vg to exc condition only. Though I am a sucker for good projects.
The key is knowing when enough is enough... now before I buy, I ask myself a few questions: Is this something I honestly need? Am I buying just because it's a good deal, or it's rare? Am I actually going to USE it? You can fill in the answers yourselves.
Don't get me wrong, I'd love to own hundreds of guitars but it's not realistic for me. I spend more time with my cars than I do playing music and those resources are better spent on that hobby (it's more expensive, unfortunately), but that's where I am at this point in my life. 20 yrs ago it would have been a different story.
Electras are an acquired taste, and this group is a great way to share that with others who share this same taste.
Enjoy the experience.

Disclaimer:

Submission of this topic does not imply, nor does it try to impune the character of, said Electra Forum Members (or others) who admit to having Electra Acquisition Syndrome (EAS), nor is it meant to suggest any negative attributes to (EAS); players and collectors welcome.

Your significant other may not agree, but if you see it and it's for sale - you gotta have it!

I know, understand and agree with all of the above. I have watched as about 5 older models went at prices I would pay just cause I like them, but I am going to spend the bucks to finish the 175's.
