I have two Japanese Les Paul copies and too many other guitars so I'm looking to sell one. Since I prefer my Greco I'm trying to see what kind of price I'd get for the Omega. It's a 1976 with the gibson style headstock. It's in reasonable shape for a 32 year old guitar and all original. I figured I'd offer it up here before I go to Craigslist or Ebay. Make me some offers. I can email pics if you want.

I might be interested if the price is right.

If its super clean you will probably get top dollar from E-Bay.

It depends. Sometimes they sell for a lot. Sometimes they dont, I got quite a few deals from E-bay.

Seems to me the really clean ones get the most money.

I'm curious why you prefer the Greco?

One point is that Greco guitars are valued much, much higher, not because of a quality difference but because they are so popular as collectable vintage in Japan. They are also increasing in value far more than Electras, which remain relatively undiscovered.

But my guess is it's entirely a subjective thing, how they feel and play, or it would be for me. The guitar I want to prefer isn't always the one that really feels best, you never can tell.

Yeah completely subjective. The Greco is black with white binding and a Kahler trem. It's the John Sykes model from 1984 which sold for 98,000 yen hence the model name JS98K. It's a very quality guitar that was one of the top of the Greco line. Very heavy mahogany body with maple cap compared to the Electra with what looks like plywood when I looked in the pickup cavities. Anybody know what woods were used?

The wood depends on the model. Some Electras may well have been ply. As time went on and they went more for original designs, the wood quality went up (just my observation). I have an X290 Workingman which was a budget line but it still has a mohgany (non-ply) body under the black poly.

I have an X230 as well, and was wondering the same thing about the arched top. When I looked at the pickup cavities, it looked like plywood - but I am not very familiar with how a curved top is normally made, so its been something of a mystery to me. Also, underneath the tone spectrum ring piece that goes underneath the chickenhead switch, the 'flamed maple' ends and its just blank cream. Regardless, it has the most "woody" tone I have ever heard from a guitar.

I'm now serious about selling. I just haven't been playing this guitar, and I'm not much of a collector, so I figure it should go to somebody who will really enjoy it.

As you can see from the pictures, it's in pretty good condition for a 30+ year old guitar. Mainly some cosmetic flaws/wear and the frets will need some attention eventually.

I've worked inside a couple MPC LP style guitars, my X330 and an X310 that belonged to a friend. They both had a shaped plywood top over the solid "mahogany-ish" back. My X330 of course has the flame maple veneer as the top layer of the shaped top.

The traditional construction of a Les Paul style involves a carved solid wood top, usually maple, as a cap on a mahogany body. Different LP models sometimes diverted from this construction, but in general that's what a solid body LP is all about.
