I am reminded of the scene in austin powers when dr. evil goes back to 1969 and asks for 100 Billion Dollars.

:) is there any valid reason why a gibby SHOULD cost more?...... i wouldn't part with my x-240 for anything less... but hey... that is just because i love it... :hyper:

but i have to admit... it will be interesting to see if someone goes for it

I can think of several - but most of them are more about tradition than quality. I love my electra x330. I have kept it over several real Les Pauls. I'd love it to be suddenly worth $1500. I don't think I would sell it. But if I had several I might sell some of them.
:hyper:
However, that does not mean that it is suddenly worth 3x what it was yesterday. It would be like shopping for a $20,000 car to suddenly see one person wanting $60,000 for the same one. Now I have paid $1000 more for an exceptional used car. If I have an exceptional electra I expect to get a $100 or $200 more extra, but not triple the price.
:toopid:
This is also going into the summer time, a is usually a slow time in guitar sales (usually a good time to buy), and the economy is pretty weak. Unfortunately, I have sold a LOT of gear lately and know the prices do not usually double or triple at one person's whim.

yes... i have to agree.... i do have several electras that i would be willing to let go for silly amounts of money.... and i also have a couple that would be hard to coax out of me even at the asking price in the above mentioned auction.... although, i must admit,... i have seen a couple of electras sell in the 4 digit range (or presumably sell, given that the auction closed succesfully)... i even saved a couple of the web pages for 'posterity' given the brow raising price attained

it is truly curious just what goes into making a guitar valuable....

8) Well I guess that value is in the eye of the buyer since they are the ones that shell out the cash. Personally I think this one will be on sale for a long time at that price considering that I just picked up a near mint all original X230 with the original hard shell case for a lot less then anything close to what this person wants. I think the original appeal of the Electra guitars(at least to me anyway) were that they were high quality, great playing and sounding guitars without the killer price. This will be interesting to watch.

I wonder what the most has been paid for any electra and for what model;

This seems to be a beauty, and any Electra model is hard to find these days;

I'll keep watching to see if anyone jumps on it;

Strange that it is an Omega and that an MPC page of the catalog is in the ad;

I agree with mortarman that this will probably be out there for a while;

I wouldn't sell any of mine either.

RCSBlues :oops: :up:

All I can say is that I will NEVER....EVER part with my '75 2242 or 43 (not 100% sure of the model but have narrowed down to one of them) no matter what!

No one would ever want you to do with out it! SAME with my X330 - it is very special to me. It will be the last one to go if ever gets down to it. It won't be too long it will need a refret, but I don't care. I'll likely get it done (or do it myself) and keep on playing it.

But why you would want to buy another one at 2-3x the going rate? That was my real point. That is a really nice $4-600 guitar. Just look at the others and compare. Better yet, look at the completed items. That price is more than optimistic, it is CRAZY. But this seems to have morphed into a "I'll never sell mine" thread. I am not sure how it got there.

Yeah my Super Rock has a full size Led Zeppelin hermit from the 70's handpainted on it and it is custom wired has has custom pick-up's in it. It has been with me to write new songs, on tour, and in the recording studio. I will NEVER sell that guitar.
