There is a X420VS (335 style w/o f-holes) in parts on the bay. I am going for this one as when money got tight I HAD to sell some of my nicest guitars including my beloved maple pro (I loved that thing so that hurt). So I don't have anything in a 335 style now, so this will fill a nice hole in my guitar collection. This might be a way to get into one cheap and I work on all my guitars anyway.

My only hope is that it is complete and there is nothing structurally wrong with it. "I don't know if it works" usually translates into, "I know it doesn't work but I don't want to say that." I know, that is not ALWAYS the case, but years of buying guitars tells me it happens. When guitars are stripped down like that sometimes it is just because someone wasn't so smart, and sometimes it is because there is a major structural issue or repair needed.

But I am going for this one if it does not go too high. Hopefully I won't just have a bag of parts when I am finished.

 I have corresponded with the owner as I had also considered this one. He states that the frets are great and that the neck is striaght and true also. The bag of parts holds all or most of the original parts and should work. He stated that the pots were the smaller ones and that you may want to upgrade to the larger pots if desired. From what I could see it looks like it will be a fairly easy re-install of the parts(if there is such a thing with a hollowbody style.) I will stand down and not bid so I hope you get it. It will make a nice guitar. Good Luck.

I didn't read your message until after the auction ended. I should have read it sooner as I may have been willing to bid more. But I didn't get it, it went a bit higher than I was willing to go given my uncertainty about the condition of the neck and frets, whether it had a bridge or a tailpiece, and what was included and what was not. If I knew all of that stuff, I would have put that info in the auction description for sure. I just didn't want to invest more into it and have to refret it or something like that.

Shucks..and I sat that one out too. It did go a bit higher than I thought it would...but I can understand that for a VS. Better luck next time Thorny....probably take a few years for another project to show up though.

Well I guess we all missed out on this one.It was a very nice project but it went for much more than I thought it would. Maybe next time.

I don't need a VS or an X-420. I would actually be happier with a Jazz Strad, another maple pro, or an elvin bishop. I'd be willing to pay more for those too as long as I have it when the time comes around.

No worries. Part about this is you gotta be willing to let things walk sometime if you just do not feel right about it. Someone wanted it more than I did and that is OK. I didn't want to spend over $400 on a guitar that is a project. My stopping point was before that.
