I wasn't expecting what I saw from the title of the CL ad, but wow, this is a beauty. Looks to be mint. Someone please snatch this up.

  I have watched this one and price has dropped a few times. I expected it to go before now as it is a fine example of the model. Hope it finds a home with a forum member.

If I had the cash I'd pick it up. That one is real nice looking. The same year as my X310 MPC. Is that like the model RCS Blues has?

Going to pay him a visit tomorrow. There's no case, no pick guard, no modules. They were all in the stolen case. Still gonna grab it if the neck ain't broke though.... :D

I'm not positive, but I think RCS's x340 is a wave headstock....

and I will definitely let you know if I get it. I see a helluva photo op coming along.......

Awesome. I did notice that headstock was different. Good luck!

Well, I ended up grabbing the ol' gal. Got it for a bit cheaper than what he was asking. There were a couple of issues with it that weren't so easily spotted. Still a nice axe though.

Here's some pics.....

Notice there's no brass sustain block under the bridge. The stop bar may be original, but the bridge is definitely not. You can see in the pic that the bushings are still on the replacement bridge, and the whole thing just sits in the holes of the existing stud mounts. It's loose and wobbly, but gets the job done, I guess. I may replace that bridge with one that actually has studs that thread into the existing holes.....
Image

The strap buttons may or may not be original, but the screws are not. Probably tried fixing a sloppy hole with an oversized screw...
Image

MPC cavity. Notice the single hinge on the cover. Later models went to two hinges.
Image

This I found particularly interesting. The MPC module connectors on this one are manufactured by Dale Electronics, which was an electronics company in Columbus, Nebraska. In 1984, they were purchased by Vishay Electronics. All of the later MPC guitars I have seen have the blue module connectors made by Amphenol. Obviously, they switched suppliers at some point....
Image

No model/serial foil sticker on the headstock. I don't know what this thing stuck on there is, but it doesn't appear that there's anything under it. Might just scrape that off....
Image

The nut has been shimmed. Don't know if it had a brass or plastic nut originally.....some of these came with plastic nuts, correct?
Image

I didn't get pictures, but there's a couple of holes where the pick guard used to be, and it does have it's share of dings and scrapes, but mostly on the back.

All in all, it's a pretty nice piece, I'm glad I got the chance to snag it. Thank you sandspur, for pointing it out!

More pics and reports to follow after I get her strung up! :D

I'm glad you picked this up and it is in such good shape. The issues you pointed out should be easy to fix. I only pointed out the ad, you did your due diligence and saved the guitar.

Now to the things you pointed out. I don't believe the earlier Electras used sustain blocks. I think yours is a transition year and has some features of the older and some of the newer. I think this is demonstrated the most by the headstock not being "open book" or "wave".

The pickups are of the later 70's style. The nuts on earlier 22xx were nylon along with the saddles.

The stop bar looks identical to the one on my 2252. Also, "import" LP bridges will thread directly into those studs. Guitarfetish among other sites sell ones that are direct replacements. PM me if you want exact models.

I think the sticker on the back of the headstock is an inventory sticker from a store. I just don't think music stores or SLM were using bar codes back then. Get a can of "sticker shock" to get off the residue that will be left.

This must be the week for "early" models. Along with proendorser/ozarcannon's jacaranda, this has to be one of the early MPC's.

8) Great score. That one is a keeper and looks nice. This is indeed the week for unusual finds. Hope there are a few more to be found out there. Congrats on the score.

Nice one man. Yea, that bar code sticker dont belong on the head or anywhere else. I didnt think that the brass nut was offered until 83' or 84 for the 60th anniverserary? I'll check my mod. sockets tomorrow to see who made them.

When will it end? When you stop getting ahead! :P Or we run out of money or homes to live in........

Actually, you could say that you have landed much more unique models as of late, where I'm still chasing around the 'vanillas'....although, this one did pick it up a bit.... ;)

Small disappointing update :

I went to string this up tonight, and while attempting to clean up the fretboard - and right as I started at the first fret - the nut falls off. Jumped off is actually a better description....

Image

Anyway, you can see that it's one of those el-cheapo plastic replacement jobs.....shimmed to the hilt as well.....

What would you recommend for replacement? Brass? Bone? Same cheapo plastic but at least at the right height??

Lemme know what you think....

I think a bone or Tusq nut would probably keep it looking "original. I prefer brass though.
