I would be all over it but I have more projects than I can handle and fewer $'s than it would take. Someone should take MC up on his offer of parts and bid.

I think I might be able to take on one more project.

I have an X320 just like this one, I think mine is a little earlier.
I've played it *way* more than my '70 SG over the past 10 years.

This would be a learning process, I've never done the luthier thing. I'm actually fairly skilled at some other things though. I could get it rewired and playable right off the bat but I would definitely be appreciative of any assistance from the local community.

I practically gasped when I realized what the *back* of this thing looked like. When I saw that it had been originally the same finish as mine, it felt like someone had just insulted my family.

What would you guys do with the top? Any concerns about the headstock?

:bawl: :bawl: :barf:  It is a real shame that someone would remove the finish on such a nice guitar. I guess that when they started they found out how good and tough the finish was and decided to stop at that. I always feel sad when I see a hatchet job to any electra to make it more like a LP. If you want a L then just buy one or get one of the earlier LP copies or if you want a set neck LP then get an omega and convert it. The inlay on the neck of this one is a real eye catcher. It has more color than most I have seen. The finish restoration is beyond my abilities but I hope someone out there can save this one. :mad2:

I'd keep the (pretty decent) top grain showing if possible, either with a stain or really thin paint. It would seem a shame to cover it up. Faded Red would seem to be a safe choice, but maybe you've always wanted a Greenburst! Good luck wiring up this guy, there's like 17 lugs being used on the 5 way switch, more than I'd be up for with all the wires on the mpc card connectors. Saving grace is that there are a number of wiring diagrams, including McB's Outlaw resurrection thread (a must read).

As far as the headstock repair... doesn't look like the black laminate on the headstock was affected too much so maybe it wasn't that serious of a crack, the repair looks a little sloppy, and probably could be cleaned up if nothing else. Ask lots of questions, even request bigger pics from the seller, and good luck man!

Here's the McB Outlaw thread:

Not much on body work as this was actually a pretty clean little example, but lots on Electronics as those were completely missing when he got it.
