I just saved an X640 from the unenlightened-they had used gold testors model paint to accent all the polepieces, position markers, tops of the brass knobs(?),washers on pickguard and the obligatory skull knob for the 3 way.
I'll post some pics of the beast before and after this project.
My question is-all the wiring looks to be factory,unmolested-but in the battery compartment, there is a 9 volt plug w/red&black conductors to it,then another set of black and red conductors with bare ends-another 9 volt plug thats missing? Any ideas? Didn't try to trace it back, all the wiring is still in neat, tidy factory ties-the conductors look to be original-couldn't find a schematic for this anywhere.
Any help is greatly appreciated,Joe

I believe the preamps on the X150, X250, X270 and X640 are all the same board, although they may be wired slightly differently. All of them are 18volt circuits, so you'll need both 9volt batteries hooked up, sounds like the clip got yanked off in battle. I've got hundreds of hours on my X250 on the same pair of batteries, so they seem to last pretty well. Congrats, and be sure to show us the 'before and after' photos, Mike.

Sweet! :D Thanks Mike,I thought so but couldn't find any solid info.
I'm not a bass player, but I couldn't stand this one being humiliated any longer-so I traded the kid a short scale Tiesco bass, and he wanted to give me some cash to boot! Kids...buy'em shoes, send'em to school and they still turn out this way  !
This will probably be up for sale shortly-anybody interested,pm me. Joe

Wish I could afford to make an offer, I need a more used/worn X640 for gigging and practice so I don't damage my early one more than I already have. Can't wait to see it, regardless!

Yep, that is just about exactly what I need, an X640 that's been used and ever-so-slightly abused, so that I don't feel so bad about the inevitable dings from gigging it. Oh well, though, maybe I'll be able to snag one next year.

Very good job fixing it up, too. I'm sure it appreciates the effort (especially getting rid of that skull switch, ugh).

Joe that looks great man, how many 'rescues' does that make for you? You should be proud, good work! Mike.

Thanks Mike-I've probably "rescued" dozens of Electras over the years. Never make much profit if any,but the St.Louis area is a target rich environment as they say in the military :D ,alot of them abused as result of not knowing any better. Joe

Well done. It cleaned up pretty nicely.

Did you get the battery clip issue fixed?

Yeah, got it corrected-one of the terminal ends were gone, the other was corroded and coming apart. Good ol' Radio Shack carries a much heavier terminal end than the originals, installed those and worked great. Mortarman's baby now,at least I know it now resides in an Electra friendly environment! :D
