The compressor and flanger compliment one another;

I still have the Thorny modified Power Overdrive and the Phase Shifter, but they stay in the case;

I don't remember the last time I took the compressor or flanger out;

The compressor really compliments an EBow as well;

I use a Thorny modified Power Overdrive and the Phase Shifter in my X330.

I checked out my MPC and it has the Dale sockets for the moduals, the single hinge door, black paint in the cavity area. I have the MPC slm truss rod cover same as yours. Mine has the modified open book head stock.

Cool! So, what year is yours? Mine has no sticker, therefore no serial number.....

Well, my serial is #08339 which is useless from what I hear. I thought it was a 76' model but as of late I'm starting to wonder. I got the catalog with Framton on the cover with it.

Yeah, that serial doesn't make a lot of sense. By the 'conventional wisdom' of serials, that would put it at an '80. I highly doubt it's that new....

and the mystery deepens.....

Both my X340 and X330 have 2 hinges, blue MPC connectors, brass nut, and brass ingot saddle plate;

X340 SN 115XX purchased new in 1977;

X330 SN 111xx purchased new in 1979 from the same music store - apparently a 77 model with a lower SN?

Ok, so I am admittedly a little dense, but, how the heck does a guy go about dating these things then?

Well, I think I'm going to stick with 76', until more proof surfaces. Because the guy on the bridge in the photo is playing a moded open book head stock and the two out front have waves. Also the catalog says the MPC was introduced in 76'. The second generation in 77' was the outlaw, semi acoustic, solid body and basses with wave head stock replacing the open books. And there is the statement that was made about guitar parts being made and taking up to a year to get to SLM for assembly even with dated serial#s.
