I figured I'd put this over here and out of the auction forum

This is how it looked in the auction...


Not shown was the pickguard, and it was in similar shape...


Here's a close-up of the body work... It looks like it had been "sanded" prior to being painted black over the entire front...
The guy who sold it at auction had taken it apart and removed the black paint... to this point before selling it...


There were a lot of dings and chips everywhere, and I really wanted it to keep the original color. the color coat was still below the poly, so a bit of sanding got it to this...


the poly on the sides of the guitar have some weird pitting and stuff, so I decided to leave it as a "relic" so to speak...
so here it is with the new poly on the front. I left the sides and back as it was still okay and hadn't been painted black...


for the pickguard, I had bought a black one to go on it, but decided to stick with the original white one after cleaning it up... I sanded the pickguard to remove most of the stains and marks, but doing so left it porous and very susceptible to picking up more stains, so I used a polycrylic water based clear coat to seal it up...
Which brings it to this point...


I got a spare bridge/tail from Joe, but its the rounded style, so I scavenged a saddle height adjust screw off it for now to complete the original bridge...

The pickups "test" out okay on the multi-meter. I'm now awaiting a box of supplies from GuitarElectronics.com...

no new pics yet, but last night I was lengthening the wires on the pups and adding the heat shrink tubing, and I decided I could put it all together except for the control plate which was waiting for the pots/cap/jack... so it's back together... definitely heavier than the x-145vs I use to have....

I don't have the strings on it yet, and it will need a set-up as well... had to scrounge some springs for the pup mounts from my parts contanier, but we're all squared away...

It's lookin' great,perfect natural relic and you didn't have to pay extra for it I think these mahogany body teles are underated,neck width is on the small side but a comfortable player to me at 6'2 and 200+
Only shortcomings were the pickups,nice jangle but microphonic-and that odd size bridge pickup....

Can't believe how quick this one is coming together man, and it looks sweet, I also like the Truss Rod covers you've fabricated, including the peacesign logo, I'm sure you could market those. The pickguard really cleaned up nicely.

Tell us how the pickups sound. I'm with Joe as far as that is probably the weakest link on this era of Japanese guits, the Electronics almost seemed to be an afterthought. My hats off to you, great job. I almost afraid to ask if you saw the other Tele that just surfaced on eBay though... Mike.

yes. I saw the other one on eBay. thought about getting it for the case... I think the neck on mine is better shape... fretboard wise...

slow hand with a foam brush. when I did this, I started the re-poly of the fretboard on my "corsair" project too...
I'll have to do another writeup on that project...

This one is looking awesome. Another fine electra saved from the boneyard and this one has cool mojo as well. Keep up the great work and have a Merry Electra Christmas. Just watch out for Santa as he may like this one. Looking good

Very nice! The "mojo" means you can do all your best Pete Townshend moves without fear.

clarification. the body was foam brushed, the pickguard was rattle canned.

I got my box of electronics, but the 250k pots were backorded and will be shipped seperately....

it's done, and sounds wonderful... (at least through my Guitar Port...)
for having the bridge/tail completely dis-assembled when I got it, I only had to lower the barrels for string height, and adjust the E-A barrel for intonation. the others were spot on! talk about getting lucky!

Starting on the control plate. Switchcraft and CTS... had to drill out (just a tad) the 2 holes for the pots.


All Wired Up...


Body Shots... I used some chrome/green abalone dome tops for the knobs...
Switch is up for bridge pickup, down for neck pickup, and middle for both...

That looks cool. Fender is charging big bucks for one that has this much mojo. Looks grear and I bet it plays and sounds great. Great work, thanks for saving another one.
