What a stupid thread this is.....dude - just put it on the bay or tell people what you want out of it.....not rocket science here....it's a knock-off of a Gibson Explorer and NOT original....true that many would like to have one, but come on......this is like some third world soap opera....I'm with Pro - let's talk about quality, tone, history....not "my precious"...

Whole heartedly agree-in my opinion,if you're a big Electra fan you are wasting a valuable resource as your control group for pricing gear, secondly you wouldn't ever want to change any of the original components from a rare model to get"more tonal capabilities"....
I think pro should retract any apology to this "member"
Joe

The Porsche 914 forum I also frequent has a policy that any "for sale" ads must include a price.

Most of the guys that are enthusiasts, who are selling parts on the website, will offer them cheaper than what they try to sell them for at auction. That's what that particular website's classifieds are about, giving your enthusiast buddies a shot at your goodies.

It's also understood that a more valuable car or part, that's desireable by more than one, will get a better price at auction, so there's also a place to list your Ebay auctions as well.

From my limited experience with websites geared to specific enthusiasts (like this fine page), long winded posts by newbies fishing for a top dollar shoot out amongst members, are usually NOT appreciated. I'm with JMM on this.

800 usd is a really fair price...but now perhaps he wont even get that for the guitar since this has been such a hassle.Even the way he is trying to sell this just seems greedy and kinda ruins the feeling of community which is one of the reason I joined this site and enjoy being a member. At the very least move this to the for sale section and make the seller give some sort of guide line for the price they are looking to achieve.

ebay is the great leveler.

An honest seller offers up an item. Potential buyers can make their judgement. Those that are motivated put their money where their mouth is.

It's really the most fair way to set the value of obscure items like this guitar.

tekmahn, the X910 is obscure and rare, that doesn't make it particularly valuable, when compared to a Gibson Explorer or Gretsch White Falcon. Put up some good photos and let the value be determined by the interested parties.

I can assure you all that I will not be bidding on this one, if the seller actually puts it up for auction.

Where did the 800.00 figure come from? Any validity to that amount from the seller?

I think that maybe we would all like to know the asking price he wants now or would like to see it posted on Ebay so that we no longer have to beat this thread back and forth any longer.

Here's what we know so far...................

I have one of the elusive Electra X910's (Rick Derringer model with 2 modules).

It's been at the luthier's shop getting new strings and in-tonated.

I took it to music shop, where they had a luthier, to get a gig bag for protection during shipping. The strings were dirty. I decided to let them restring it and intonate it since I don't know how to do intonation. Ernie Ball Super Slinkies were put on.

There was no repairs done.

It has no serial number to be seen. Perhaps you can date it by a 78-4 date code/ on the Amphenol connectors for the modules. 79 model?

H I S T O R Y:

It is an either one two or three owner.

Just bought it from someone who said it was played early on and stuck in a closet for a long period of time.

It said it sat in a closet for years. I cleaned decades of dust off it.

I bought it off of Ebay.

I have never played it until tonight.

I've just always had it and never really looked at it.

C O N D I T I O N:

It is a complete and unbroken guitar.

This is a solid, working, unbroken X910.

This guitar is in a great used condition. It's rating should probably be....... 8 or 9 out of ten. A few nicks and tears as one that was played at some point, It's a beauty.
It not perfect because of some minor scuffs, the worst being at the lower tip/edge. decent overall.

It has been played and if you wanted to count the dings/scratches/invasion into the varnish it would be many. The original gloss is still tight and defects can only be seen up close.

The original finish is in played condition but still mirror glossy for the age and use. Somebody really twanged away on this after they bought it. You can see there is a rest area on the edge of the lower headstock edge where it rested a lot.
The phase shifter and power over drive modules work correctly. The brightness switch on the phase shifter works. I tried combinations of two power overdrives and phase shifters.

There are pointers below the pot knobs. I cleaned with a q-tip and some mild soapy water/alcohol solution.

O R I G I N A L I T Y:

All original.

I don't know what's up with the neck pick up. I took off the pickguard and the wiring has an outer woven metal grounding sheath on both pickup wires going to the 3 way selector switch (even the the pickguard is labled for 5 position (?). Another grey insulated two conductor (1 wire surrounded by shield/ground wire is between the selector switch and the header for the module feeds.

I think its all original. Since I am not the original owner and can only find a few pics of an x910 model, I am at a loss to explain this particular one. It appears to be all original to me. I'm no expert.

All I know is that it was sold to me as original.
Today, I looked closely at this guitar guts for the first time in who knows how long. It still has the sawdust in it. Who can say if Saint LouisC didn't make customized versions of this model? There is no way it's been altered (In my opinion). Nothing has been compromised (?). I believe it is, simply, a lesser version of the full "Tone Spectrum". I could be wrong and will admit so, if proven wrong. Maybe whoever bought it had the dealer modify it.

I discovered the knobs. The first one controls volume. the second one controls tone. The third and forth are control/volume/depth/intensity of the two modules. The two paddle switches are on/off switches for the modules, both powered by one 9 volt battery, even though there is a compartment for a spare?

I also challenge anyone to show this is not some SLC variant. I have example pics of this look, except for the neck pickup, and that's because the neck pickup was obscured or cut off.)

This particular guitar I have.... Is possibly modified. That makes sense. The neck pick up doesn't match the bridge pickup or other pics I have of this model. The 3 way selector switch does not match the 5 position labeling on the pick guard.

I've seen enough Electras through the years. I know what it is. I have never seen wires like that.

H M M M M M M:

This guitar would benefit greatly as a customized project if some has the smarts to take it apart completely and correctly, and maybe? if they are a professional restorer, refinish it. If I had the talent and resources, I could make this one... "The Customized Bomb" X910.

Personally, I would replace all the screws with shiny ones, buff the holy ... out it with a soft cloth, upgrade the pickups to optimize tonal sounds, replace the input jack nut and washer (slightly rusted portion), take off the knobs and polish the pointers, squirt electronic cleaner into the pots (not because they need it but it's old and collected dust), get every mpc module times two, make it a five way instead of three way and make it a showpiece.

P R I C I N G:

I might be offering it for sale on ebay if I have no offers here.

I want a lot for it. I have to get my money back out of it at least.

I'm not here to price gouge anyone.

Please bear with me on not answering questions about pricing or buying right now.

I'm still evaluating it.

Look up what a mint one is worth and drop drop or jack it.

told me he rejected an offer of 800 usd

At the risk of further feeding this thread, I wish I could nominate this for a 'Best of Electra Forum' area, like CL has... this is already a classic! JD's roundup of confusing conflicting contrary quotes from the seller was confounding! And JMM's third world soap has got me rolling... stop it, it hurts.
