Hi everyone,
i recently picked up an electra LP (I believe its a 2242.. but not totally sure.. has the L5.s harmonica bridge on it, which are kinda crude looking in some respects. (can that be changed to an ABR style? Im in the process of rewiring to a les paul style as the previous owner had EMGS in it and the pots had to be changed and i believe the pickups are stock that I had to lengthen the leads on.

neck pickup is one of those cream open coil with gold slugs rates at about 8.07k
bridge is standard style tarnished gold cover rates about 8.30k

Ive wanted an LP copy for a while and have been looking for these electras and one just fell in my lap, so excited to get this beast running..
and serial is 032179.. can someone verify the year?

one more thing, HI folks! Im your newest member and look forward to getting to know everyone and sharing some knowledge and gaining knowledge. also Im not a "forum value seeker" you know, the types that join only to ask the resell value and then never heard from again?..

Ill post pics of the electra when I snap some. thanks all.

Welcome aboard jds! Always like to see new members around here!

Like your axe! Serial numbers don't seem to be an accurate way to date these guitars, but from the wave headstock and the 'crown' truss cover, I would guesstimate very late 70s or very early 80s, but someone more knowledgeable about that should be around shortly... (read, anyone else...)

As far as the bridge, not really sure there either, but I would think if the post spacing can be matched up to an ABR or TOM - type bridge, it should certainly work, but, there again - would need someone to verify that actually has some knowledge.... :D

Again, welcome aboard, and stick around! Ask lots of questions and post lots of pics. We groove that stuff.....

Thanks for the welcomes! yeah, if I can figure this wiring out, Ill be ready to start playing this thing and join the electra guitar legion!

Ive never been good with the LP wiring I guess because there are so many wiring routes to take, like 50's 60's modern, past present future etc etc...

I just want a schematic for 2 electra humbuckers and 2 vol and 2 tone..

its a pain to say the least

Ill update soon. WITH PICS!

8) Cool looking Axe you have there. I would agree with the serial assessment. I would say with the wave headstock and info around 1978-80 range with a + or - 1 year either way. Hard to determine the manufacturing year just from these foil stickers. Great looking guitar and good luck with the reconfiguration. I will try to find an older post that may have the wire diagram as it has been discussed in the past here in the forums. I am certain someone around here has one. Welcome to the forums. The pineapple style truss rod cover and wave headstock help date this one more than the sticker does. Hope this helps. Not certain on the bridge issue.

thank you for the reply.
Im stumped on this bridge issue. its a HEAVY piece, so its probably gonna last for quite a long time but I think its an asthetic issue as im used to seeing the TOM bridge styles..

oh well, Ill get to this wiring after the wife falls asleep :D

Welcome jds79. That bridge can be replaced with an ABR but it needs to be metric/import style. The standard Gibson size is a little too big for the posts (or maybe too small - I forget). I did a pretty long search once for a brass ABR that would fit. No luck. There were chromes available. The neck HB cover should be easy to get too if you wanted to.
