I (fairly recently) emailed Peter Frampton and asked him when was the last time he played an Electra. He actually replied and said something like "1976" (lost that email since then).

I was watching a show tonight on PBS ("Hines Farm Blues Club") and son-of-a-gun if I didn't think I spotted an Electra being played by Eddie Kirkland, who still is playing and touring.

It was a brief glimpse, but it sure looked like an Electra to me. Which was then pretty much confirmed by that pic on the home page of his website.

A closer examination of the site revealed these pics -

That last one leaves no doubt, especially if you blow it up.

I did a word search here for "Kirkland" and didn't get any hits, so I assume this hasn't been mentioned before -- or at least not recently.

Anybody know anybody else who plays an Electra?

Yep, looks like Larry's playing an Elvin Bishop and James is playing a Vulcan very much like mine, although his may be a bit darker Tobacco Sunburst. I'll post some pics of mine via an edit of this a bit later.

Had a little trouble finding a large enough pic of the Preachin The Blues album cover to be able to see the Vulcan clearly enough, but I finally did find this one -

I also found a comment by L.A. Jones, of L.A. Jones and The Blues Messengers -

http://www.lajones.com/bio.htm

wherein he states "I use the Frankensteined Electra tuned to a D..."

http://www.lajones.com/brewingstory.htm

I looked thru his photos and can't tell what the "Frankensteined Electra" might be, but I'm assuming it's an Electra neck on a different body or vice versa. Maybe I'll email him and see what he says.

Anybody else?

It's interesting that all we've come up with so far are Bluesmen.

Edit: 2/23/09: Got a reply from L.A. Jones. He says "its a Les Paul copy, that has been butchered beyond recognition, no pics out there that I know of...."

I should probably warn you I left the cheesey goes to 11 comment on the pictures in your Myspace.

I play Electras, but not in the band or anything as my guitar skills are next to 0.
But when I get my Outlaw and a lot of patience fixing it...you bet I'll never put it down.
Although I could never abandon my P-bass....decisions, decisions....

Just play every instrument you can get your hands on. I have found that being a musician is much more rewarding that just being a drummer, a guitarist, or a bassist, etc...

Hello there this is MAD 45......working on a little project and came across the Eddie Kirkland mention of him in the Hines Farm Blues Club documentary.......for what it is worth I co-produced, co-directed and co-wrote that documentary for WBGU PBS......I interviewed Eddie many times for the project and yes indeed he did play an Electra guitar.....the footage from the studio he is playing it and the still shot that we used he is holding an Electra....the photo was taken by legendary blues photographer John Rockwood.....he may have other photos of Eddie playing his Electra......I recently heard Eddie passed away......he will be remembered for being such a great guy and super helpful and enthusiastic of the Hines Farm project......so sad to hear of his passing

8) That looks to be a X110 Rock strad he is playing with a few extra goodies installed. Nice. I was fortunate enough to be born and raised in Macon, Ga and I mean there was some great music there back in the day. I remember going out to see the Alman Bothers, Marshall Tucker. Charlie Daniesl, Atlanta Rythm Section, James brown and many other great that made their way through Macon. Capricorn Records was in full swing back then and had many a up and coming musician recording there in downtown Macon. great music and great times.
