This one has been totally gutted of all hardware and electronics and has some binding missing as well as the headstock vernier and logo. Would be alot of work and parts to bring this one back but would be great to see it restored. :look:

What are those studs at the bottom of the guitar for? The wood is worth that much, nice Mahogany neck through starting point for a project... but $200 in parts plus labor on top of that makes it a tough call. Good luck to whoever takes it on.

looks like it had been gutted long before and rebuilt differently with those 2 studs (for what I don't know) and you can see the brass ingot piece has had a wood block glued in it's place....

the original finish is all gone...

it would be a good starting point for a normal neck-thru guitar. to many hard to come by parts to try and redo this one economically...

the outlaw I redid, only cost $68 for the body.....

I sent the fella an email last night-no response yet. Shame it was gutted and modified, those stud inserts suck but I think I could pull those and fill with mahogany dowels-would be nice to keep natural, but might be a sunburst candidate with the extra holes. I have a set of mmk53's I think would work well, two volume, two tone with coil cut and phase reverse should fill the control holes.........

I'm supposed to hear back today about the pickguard - Apparently there is a potential local buyer that is supposed to do a deal today. Not wishing bad luck to anyone - but I need a pickguard.

After two weeks, the guy emails me and asks if I still wanted it-like I needed another project. Well,it showed up a couple of weeks back, body and tailpiece, hacked up and beat pickguard.
I had the back covers,an original nut,trc,strap buttons-so that helps,but.....
the six mounting holes for the pots and switches are all oversized,no big deal on the pot mounting holes-3/8 standard full size pots, but the paddle switch holes are 7/16 +....anybody know where I could find DPDT on/on/on swicthes that aren't mini switches?
The block they glued in was at least mahogany, althouth it was an 1/8th higher than the rest of the body  What they were trying to do with the bushings is a mystery-one was metric, the other was sae standard :-? ,semi separated the lower wing when they installed it :o
here's the bushing install

here's the block install
http://i929.photobucket.com/albums/ad13 ... law006.jpg
the hacked up pickguard
http://i929.photobucket.com/albums/ad13 ... law001.jpg
Might as well start, pulled the bushings and cleaned up the holes, filled with hard maple dowels, reglued seam and clamped
http://i929.photobucket.com/albums/ad13 ... law009.jpg
plane the block back to level
http://i929.photobucket.com/albums/ad13 ... law010.jpg
the headstock veneer had been removed, very contrasted color at scarf joint,so veneered in some figured birch
http://i929.photobucket.com/albums/ad13 ... law011.jpg
here it is stained, drlled, decals(thanks again McB),sealed
http://i929.photobucket.com/albums/ad13 ... law016.jpg
restained the body, cut a new pickguard using old one for template
http://i929.photobucket.com/albums/ad13 ... law017.jpg
here's it is so far......lots to do
http://i929.photobucket.com/albums/ad13 ... law018.jpg
now to dig up some more parts.............
Joe

That was fast! It looks D@mn nice man, especially considering what you started with. I think we all cringed when we saw the original pictures in the ad, and knew it would be a lot of work, but you make it look easy. It's cool that the pickguard covers up the block where the bridge goes.

Was there any splitting or damage where those studs were? Do you just end up yanking those out? What shape are the neck and frets in?

It's already kind of unique, so maybe those peacesign tuners you've got would fit right in with the motif. Anyway, kudos man, another one well on its way back to life. (makes my Futura project look like a walk in the park!). Cheers, Mike.

(someone with the 'Power' should move this over to the Repair and Restoration area)

 It is amazing what you have done with what most considered a non recoverable outlaw. You are indeed a master with wood and it looks great. Waiting to see the final product. Thanks for saving yet another one from the fire.

on/on/on dpdt?? I've seen them in rocker type switches but can't recall a paddle type. Would a 3 way pickup type switch work? Actually, what's your plan for on/on/on anyway?

Man, somebody really did a number on that poor thing. It's good to see you'll get it back to playing condition. Great job! When I spoke with the guy he didn't even mention the pickguard was hacked up. The guard I have is just busted up a bit by the rotary numbers - it's fine really. I'd just like to find one that's still intact (losing faith). Maybe I'll come across one or have one made someday.

If you can't find bullseyes, these are a pretty good alternative - no new screwholes at least.

Joe...you da man. KUDOS on a job well done. I have every expectation of seeing yet another beautiful Outlaw when you're done.

I really hate to say this....but these days I'm just too occupied with honey-do's and otherwise too lazy to undertake this sort of project. Super glad you did.

I might have some MPC switch tips floating around - I'll take a look. If I have them I'd be happy to donate them.
