the auction stated that the electronics had been removed....
well, I finally got around to opening it up, and it was a really nice job. it still has the original pickups and switches, etc, just had the board, and the on/off switch removed, and plugs added to the pickaguard to fill the holes....

however, about 3 weeks prior to snagging the bass on a BIN, I got a complete Active EQ set-up, with pups, switches, knobs, everything. So now to swap in the complete harness....

8) I like the color on this finish. Good to see another fine Electra being restored to it's original glory. Thanks for the photos and keep us posted.

well, it's now an Active EQ bass again. :D

I took the old pups/controls out, and put in the others with the Active EQ stuff, put on the brass knobs, and wired in 2 new hard style battery connectors (I like the hard style better, and those were the only things that were cut when the Active stuff was removed from it's previous bass).

Added 2 - 9V batteries, and all works well. jack is a little scratchy, so it just needs a cleaning...

We need pics of the finished product man! It is uber cool that you had the active electronics and harness just waiting for a project. That is not a very common finish, and I think it looks good. I personally feel that the non-pickguard versions look better, and they have the string-through setup which is nice, but I also think that the pickup placement (distance from bridge) is better on these pickguard versions. Thanks for putting it back to stock, and congrats. Are you gonna keep it for awhile?

this one was one of the easy ones thankfully. the only soldering I did was when putting on the new 9V connectors, and then heatshrink tubing...
that's the one good think about having a cover-all pickguard :)

Looks sweet McB. Give us first shot when you put it on the block. Where did you find the third brass knob, and how much does it weigh?

the brass knobs came with the full EQ set-up I got seperately... so now I have 2 spares (along with the non-active harness) for a future project... but double P set-ups are few and far between....

bathroom scale says 9.8 lbs. (with 2 batteries and the strap)

Very nice indeed. Great work and thanks for bringing back yet another great Electra to enjoy. I agree with Mike when and if the time comes to part with her give us all a shot here first. I like the color on this one and it would look nice with my white and natural finish active models. Great work. Myabe one of these years I will reach my goal of one of each Electra model lol. Gonna take a few years I think. That is why I love the Electras so much. So many different variations of models both copies and the later original models. Great stuff.

Arthur, you'll have to find another way to satisfy your EGAS on this model... It has already been delivered to a board member.... 8)

No problems glad someone here scored it. Great job. I seem to have plenty of EGAS left to go around.

Yes, the X640 has found a new home:

I didn't need another Bass, but I really fell for that stain sunburst finish. You see the Natural finish version fairly often, but I think this is only the 2nd sunburst I've seen. Neck has an incredible flame on the back piece (sorry I didn't snap a photo), and the pickups have lots of punch to them. I like it a lot. One of the switches is a bit of a mystery to me... The Big Switch is obviously the pickup selector, the next one seems to brighten up either pickup (like a coil cut would) but I'm not sure how you'd wire those P bass pickups with a coilcut??, the third switch is definitely a phase reverse hooked up to the Bridge pickup, and the last switch (towards the output jack) turns on the Active circuit. TONS of Tones available with this setup. On a lot of Basses I tend to ignore (or cringe using) the Bridge pickup, but on this Bass the rear pickup is far enough away from the bridge to still have some umph to it. Did I tell you that I like it a lot? Here are both the Basses I've bought from McBrat, the Longnecker, while a stunning instrument in its own right, may have to go because this Phoenix is my new go-to Bass:

Cheers, Mike.
