most of those little buggers are ok, but I generally like the sound of the amps with transformers better. Still, it is a small tube amp, and those are quite collectible and certainly worth fixing - especially if you have the guitar with it - even if you don't get the isolation transformer. You can certainly fix it, and test the sound without the isolation transformer. But I would not use it all the time without one - it just isn't a good idea. I do know plenty of people that use them all the time without one and they are ok. But then again I know people that drive 140mph because they can, but I certainly don't advise doing it

I just bought the weirdest cabinet I've ever seen. Circa 1980 Dean Markley 1x12 Slant Cab. I can't even find anything on the net about it. I used this at a gig last week and it worked great.


It's an open back cab, and I was able to fit all of my stage stuff in the cabinet for transportation, three pedals, all my cables, the attenuator and two fold up A frame guitar stands! Not too shabby. Laugh away, it's ugly as the day is long, but I like it a lot! Mike.

I have never seen one of those before. Back in the day when I used to hang out most days at the local music store my favorite amp to play was a Dean Markley he had in the store. it was one of the medium sized studio amps. I bet the cabinet sounds great and it is an added bonus to have the storage space.

Sure looks like a stage monitor but the angle is actually good for hearing an instrument. The Markley Amps were only made for a couple years, sell for virtually nothing, and worth way more than nothing. The only ones I ever see are s/s/ combos that are built like tanks. That's a nice pickup.

I have a very small dean markley SS amp that was given to me by Don Mattingly of NY Yankees fame. I did some computer work for him years ago, and mentioned working on amps. He gave it to me. It was not working at the time, and he once used it for harmonica as I recall. It normally would have went in the trash because it was a tiny low cost SS amp, but I fixed it just because it was his. I still have it, and it works fine. I probably had it for ten years now.

BTW - he is a very nice person and as was his family (the ones I met). He is a class act. Don't meet too many celebs that are so well grounded like that. But he did grow up around here. He acts Just like a regular guy, in fact, nicer than most 'regular' guys.

Don Mattingly was my hero for many years. I'm real happy he's getting a chance to manage but it should be with the Yankees. Hopefully someday he'll get that opportunity.

That was my hope, on smaller stages, I find my amp pointed at my ankles and I can't hear it without really cranking it up. At this last gig I had my amp set 4 db lower than normal and could hear myself better because of the dispersion of the lower cabinet. I'm real happy with it. The fact that I can shove all my stage stuff in the back is just icing on the cake. My brother the Bass player can't stop snickering at it, but he had to admit that it filled the air better than my straight extension cab.

The idea is a good one - even if it hasn't caught on commercially. That was part of the idea behind the slant front Marshall cab too - but carrying around a 4x12 slant front is overkill for most gigs. My friend Ben Fraley builds amps and built a cabinet remarkably like that dean markley a few years ago for the same reasons - to be able to hear himself on stage and better disperse the sound. To my knowledge he didn't know about the markley version, but got his inspiration from some floor monitors. It works really well for a 1-12. and I could see that combined with a straight cab or a small combo on top sounds like a good setup. So sounds like good minds think alike in this case. Ben is full of ideas - some work out and some don't - but you never know until you try (and he isn't afraid to try new things). He also built a 2x12 that the baffle was angled back (not as sharply, but more of the Marshall angle).

Good stuff. Great that it works out for you and was a good deal. Just the reason why many of us play Electras!

I've been thinking about making a 1-15" + 2-10" external cabinet for my Peavey Encore 65. It's an all tube amp that seems to really wake up when it's got more speakers to drive. What do you think?

I think you should get cracking. If it's an either/or question, I vote for 2-10's.

Dusted off my wife's MusicMan 112RD Fifty awhile back. Just about the purest clean channel you could ask for in a smaller sized box.

Also a Carvin roller cab with a separate head. The cab has 2 woofers and an exposed tweeter horn in it. Looks to be about 125 to 150 watts as a guess.

Any Carvin users here?

Last year, I traded a Fender Pro Jr for a new Fender Mustang II. It's the only modeling amp I've played that comes this close to vintage Fender tone. Gotta have a laptop to run it...lol.

well my 2 amps are
peavey Bandit 112 teal stripe and a peavey classic 30 all tube amp both are in great shape.one is a 1992 and the other is a 1994 they go well with my Electra super gold 2254
