Well folks, here is my new old Outlaw X730 i acquired locally a little while back. She is a little banged up a you can see but i feel fortunate just to own one of these jems. The frets are practically new looking with no pits and the action is incredible, which makes her a great player.

So the last owner didn't like the MPC thing and totally gutted the original electronics, pickups and all. :o :eek2:  However, he was very careful and only made 3 splices in the wiring to remove it. He kept everything in great shape and i was able to solder it all fairly easily. Mind you when i say easy each splice had several tini wires to connect (as i'm sure many of you know). I was stoked to get all of the original parts back in there but when i plugged it in all of the positions worked except position 4 ( treble pickup only). This kinda baffled me because the pickup works in the other positions. Any ideas out there, do you think it was in my soldering or could the switch be bad? I have no way of knowing if it was like that to start with. The photos show the 3 splices that were connected.
By the way, i love the MPC! It came with a flanger and it all works perfectly, its a blast to play with onboard electronics.

the wiring at the 5-way looks correct, but the switches can have issues. I replaced one that had some bent contacts... I would work the switch and look at each position and where the contacts are made, and see if there's anything wrong there...

if it works in the other positions, it almost has to be the switch....

Thanks alot for the input mcbrat, i kind of figured it was not the wiring since it worked in other positions, but my friend thought otherwise. I'll take a closer look at the switch and update here.

well, in setting 1,3,5 it's paired with the other pickup....

and it's not a 4 lead humbucker, just a 2-wire, so it can't be a single coil bad...

the only other real possibility would be that the pup is bad.I would set the switch at position 4 and use a multi-meter to check continuity/resistance of the pup. red mm lead to red wire, black mm lead to the white wire....

if it's open then the pup is bad...
