I have one on my x950 that is completely frozen. I don't often see these pots frozen but this one is. Any help would be appreciated as I have looked online and found some that are close, but not the same.

One of the 150k MPC pots on my Outlaw is frozen also. It's a weird value, and I think they used a cheesy part. If you find a decent contemporary equivalent, post it here! Mike.

I found some 150's on ebay, but one type was a much larger pot, and I didn't want to drill out the hole bigger. the other was an extremely tiny pot that was too small for the hole... after doing some research, I decided to use 100k pots when I did my Outlaw rewire project... I think it was something like. "The smaller the POT value, the less impact on the signal", so I figured I'd error on that side. I figures a 250k pot (next most common) would have affected the signal too much and could cause the effects to work/sound differently....

but I could have been way off base

I looked up Clarostat and they are owned by Honeywell and are apparently good quality. What do you guys think?

all 3 look like they will work, but you'll need to find different knobs for the smooth split shafts... That's another reason I went with the 100k pots....

A little silicone could hold the knobs on and it's not permanent.

Either that or screw in knobs.

I searched for hours now but finally found some speed knobs with set screws. They match the existing knobs exactly. Only problem is they are overseas, but the shipping isn't outrageous.

Years ago the stock volume pot on my X340 was frozen;

I took the back plate off, then carefully stuffed a cloth in there as to not break any connections and then I gave it a couple of really good shots of WD40 in the vent hole in the back of the pot and let it set for about an hour;

Low and behold - it freed up - and is still on the guitar today - and it still works;

This was back in the day before Caig Deoxit - and I was desperate so I tried this;

I know that using WD40 is frowned upon - but in this case it worked - just letting you know.

RCS, that definitely sounds like something to try. Thanks for your input.

If you are bored or have too much time on your hands, you can take the pot apart. There's usually a couple tabs that hold the housing on and just need to be bent up. You can carefully separate the guts from the housing and then you can almost certainly free whatever is sticking it up. I'd be very surprised if the pot was terminally stuck. It's a mechanical part so there will be a way to unseize it.

I took another look at it and it appears stuck for a physical reason. It appears it has been "jammed" down somehow and the post almost seems bent. I'm not sure how this would happen but I think I am going to go the new pot and knob route. I'm still gathering parts and information on how to do the repairs I need to do and will post a thread in the repair and restoration forum. Thanks all for your input and time.

#2 does not have a shaft. Requires a screwdriver to adjust. It's the type you would use panel mounted for alignment, like amplifier bias adjustment.

#1 and #3 will be 3/8" bushing, which is larger than the stock metric pots. You'd have to enlarge the holes.

I have not found much of anything in the market, as 150k is no longer a standard value.

In Nashville there is an electronics dist. called Rice Electronics I think, and they will have what you want when no one else can get it. I think they are in the book.

I have been told by Electrical eng.s' to use wd40 instead of contact cleaner on circuit boards because it wont oxidize as quick. (make sure powers off and give time to dry)
