It turns out not to be the CreamPuff 9 out of 10 we were led to believe... Finally got some pictures at 2:00 this afternoon. I cleared my throat, loaded my car and took the plunge, or the three hour drive in the rain as it were. I did end up getting the X910, pictures forthcoming.

It has a unmarked (and unremarkable...) changed out pickup in the Bridge Position, I believe the Neck to be original. Everything else looks correct. More than its share of dings around the edges, back and front are presentable. One crack on the headstock, around the low E tuner, doesn't look super serious, but there none the less. Missing Serial Number tag on the back of the headstock (hot..?? I always have to ask myself). Perfect pickguard, correct tuners, I'd call it a 7.5-8.0 out of ten. Case is pretty clean, and yeah, it's too thin and not adequate for shipping these safely, the guitar stands on the headstock all the time because of the severe headstock angle.

So what is the going price for one of these? I'm not sure this is going to help, because this was a Gear/Cash deal. I offered a vintage Mesa Boogie 4x12 cab, the gorgeous 2259 'Double Solid' SG that I picked up recently and $400 cash. The seller wanted $500, after we looked at both our offerings this afternoon, I gave him $420 in cash plus the two items.

The 4x12 cab I bought back in 1989, haven't used it much in the past ten years, cost me $300 back then and the going rate is about $500 nowadays. I paid $330 for the SG Shipped to me recently, personally I think it is worth more, but thats what I paid for it. So call it somewhere between $1050 and $1200. The nice surprise was the 'Filter Follower' and 'Phase Shifter' modules included... so subtract about $150 in my favor... $900 for a X910? I'm happy.

The 4x12 was a beast, early early half back Mesa Design, and fairly sought after with both EVM and MC-90 speakers. It sounded thunderous, but I hated moving it, and again haven't really used it in a decade... I wont miss it that much. The SG was beautiful, about as near mint a 35 year old guitar as I've ever owned, but I just never bonded with it and the Bigsby tailpiece. I'll miss it, but I'll get over it every time I open up the case to this rare Explorer!

I haven't spent but 20 minutes playing it yet, but it does sustain pretty nicely, I did notice that. The neck profile is a bit big, probably similar to the MPC LP's, not quite as chunky as the Leslie West to me. I promise to spend some quality time with her tomorrow and post some pics. Cheers, Mike.

Sounds like a pretty good deal Mike. I'm sure the Mesa was a nice cab but if it's not getting used, there's no better way to dispose of it than by a trade. Shipping and packaging big items like that is really a pain - so that's well done! The 2259's pop up with a good deal of regularity so if you get the urge, I'm sure you can replace it. Holding out for a stop tail would be my choice too. Heck, X910's don't just grow on trees - especially intact ones. Looking forward to the pictures.

I think you put together a very reasonable deal, Mike. Congratulations.
