There was a Skylark 2588 on eBay Sunday night. Good photos of a 2588 here:

http://www.guitarscanada.com/electric-g ... 981-a.html

and the original info:

http://matsumoku.org/models/skylark/skylark_info.html

The best way to think of the top-end Skylark is as a set-neck X150.

With three minutes to go, the auction was bid to $545. I put $555 in and it looked like that might have been enough. In fact, I was kind of kicking myself for impulse-bidding $555 on a guitar that I probably wouldn't play or use. My eBay mobile app showed me as the winner at $555...

..but then I refreshed the page to make sure. Nope. It went for

$880.00

Admittedly, this was a solid-condition guitar with all parts working and very little damage to the finish anywhere, but MAN, what's next? Solid-color '84 Phoenixes for a grand?

In my haste to complain I made a mistake. It's not a set-neck X150; it's a neck-through X150.

Jack.... I had the winning bid for 3 of the last 8 seconds of that auction @ $822.79. I was watching it and saw your bid. I am sure there were at least 2 E-snipe accounts set up on that auction. It jumped over $300 in the last 8 seconds.

Did not think to ask around here if anyone was bidding on it. There was a thread over at the Mats fourms about it, but most of those posts were bemoaning the price it had reached with 3 days still left.

Sorry for both of us. I am keeping an ear to the ground on this one. The x390 that went for over $1500 about 3 weeks ago or so was technically mine as the seller had agreed to end the auction early based on an offer I made to him directly. He did not end the auction however and I was left standing at the gate basically after that. But the eventual winning bidder did post on the Westone forums about it so I was able to hear the upshot of the whole deal.

Perhaps the winner of this Skylark will do the same. Maybe more info to come.

Thought I'd post this for comparison (however appropriate or not) with the blue skylark... particularly for you Iceman, since you also expressed interest in the X150 (which I was eyeing, but will let it go since I have a x149 and am currently out of the country)...

clearly out of my price range (800 E is currently ~$1,150 USD) but a beauty and looks clean. I'm just watching to see if it goes:
