Just a teaser for you all...

got a good deal on a gutted and stripped body, and some other cast-off parts. will be using some existing parts I have, along with some body mods....

but the end result will be a Matsumoku "Could have been" bass... from about the '82-'84 period.... :hyper:

Body, neck, pups and electronics are all Uncle Mat....

Looks like a nice slab. I bet it resonates real well with all the little woodpecker holes by the bridge. JK

I was thinking more of a double headed... body. the top halfof a tele, mated to the top half of the Concord body. a Quadruple cut....

oh no... the body shape will be as you see, though there will be some routing changes... but nothing too severe... though this body is thick enough to make it an MPC, I'm holding off on going that far with this one.... 8)

so... Branding wise, this is what we have so far...

Body - Westone
Pups, switches, pots - Electra
Knobs - Electra potentially, but color scheme will dictate
Neck Plate and screws - Electra
Neck - ???????
Bridge - not sure at the moment... might be an aftemarket Hipshot RIC replacement...
Pickguard will need to be custom of course...

Wow. That Concord bass has seen better days. Can't wait to see what becomes of it! Any idea why there are so many holes in the bridge area?

maybe a previous owner was trying to adjust the intonation by moving the bridge

the alder body is smooth as silk so it could be painted, but since it already stripped, it's gonna get a somewhat translucent finish...

That grain is pretty, it deserves to be shown off! Trans blue or green with a black pickguard is the way I'd go.

I was originally thinking green too but the neck is sort of dictating some color choices as I won't need to refinish it....
but it will have a black pickguard...

hmmm. well, now I'm not sure the neck I picked up is Matsumoku or not... it's not listed in Guitar Galleries listings, but I found a message board dedicated to the brand, and there, some people say it's Mat, some say it's a different manufacturer that I can't remember now...

I think I'll still go forward with the plans though... as the neck is pretty cool...

looks like the route on the body will have to widen out a bit, and the odd shape of the neck heel base will have to change too.....

Do you still have that dual P-bass harness? Not sure how much you would have to route up the body to get them to fit, but I love how quiet and punchy those pickups are. Good luck, Mike.

Hey McB... is a transblack or transblack/sunburst finish out of the question?

doh!!! you caught me :)
that's exactly what's going in here... I already have the lines drawn out where they will go, but still working on how the neck is gonna work....

actually, transblack is the direction I was leaning, but also been thinking that trans red might look good too...
