Have you all ever seen one with no markings on the head stock? an omega truss rod cover? they seem unsure if its a mpc.

Yeah, we've seen tons that have had the logo painted over. Keep in mind that Electra had a 'Pawn Shop' copy reputation for 2 decades, and many wannabees didn't want to be seen with them... even though we know that they were good quality instruments now (in hindsight). A lot of these guitars were butchered and abused because the thinking at the time was " it's just a copy...", which makes it especially nice when you find one that didn't suffer either of those fates. Welcome aboard, Mike.

Welcome to the Electra forums. This is indeed a Omega model as it has the 1 volume, 1 tone controls and a color switch for each pickup. The case is also an original electra case. Lots of players of the day loved the playability and sound of these instruments but did not want to be associated with the copy stigma that the competition put out back in the day so they removed the logos etc. Great guitar and well worth it if it stays low. Good Luck

A lot of the time the paint over is fairly easy to remove. It doesn't look to have held up well as it is.

There's something wrong with me. Oh well...... at least I'll have another small (hopefully) project in stripping off that headstock.

I actually had more interest in the case than the guitar. The seller advised the case is in VG condition. There's some kind of issue with the tone knob. I'm told it's hard to turn.

Interesting...... no headstock binding and no logo...... the tone pot is the 1st pot to ever defeat me. It just refused to free up even after taking it apart. A previous owner must have really cranked on it as the shaft broke apart with only moderate turning pressure from me. The usual bent - but not broken - batwings and what appears to be a replacement Gotoh bridge.
Overall, this guitar is actually in really good shape - no scratches or dings to speak of on the top and very minor buckle rash on back, frets, neck, etc. all good. One smal chip on the back of the neck. The case is also in reasonably good shape - all latches and hinges work.

Never owned one, but you would think anything with a bound neck would also have a bound headstock. Also looks like there are more than a few dings on the headstock, so you should be able to see what kind of material is under there. I'm wondering if the whole headstock got repainted, or gasp, if there's been a headstock snap and repair? (just throwing that out there) The auction didn't show any close ups to speak of, and no shots of where the two bindings (neck and headstock) would meet. There is no reason it would have left the factory (distributor) like that. It can't be a prototype as the wave headstock would have been a later issue, and as we've seen, even the proto's would typically have logos on them. Take a real close look at the paint on the neck and volute, and see if there is any difference in sheen or color. There has got to be an explanation for this... if nothing else, it looks like you got a really decent price for it and the case. Congrats.

I stripped it so I can say for sure there never was binding or a logo. There was a coat of gray/white primer over the wood and Klean-Strip spray on foaming stripper actually worked really well to soften the finish..... if it wasn't a set neck I'd suspect a neck change but that just ain't the case. When I was first looking at it I was impressed by how well someone had matched the paint and finish. That someone was at the factory.
This is what I expected:
Image

The neck binding dives right into and is flush with the brass nut - like my X330 but there is no angled startup of binding on the headstock. Out of curiosity I measured the thickness of the headstock on the X330 and this X210. The X330 is 15.77 mm and the X210 is 16.7 mm so another theory - that maybe the whole headstock was sanded down to below the level of binding and logo - was shot down too. So, for whatever reason, I conclude that this guitar came from the factory without headstock binding or logo.

I looked in the control cavities and pulled the pickups out in search of any kind of marks that might have given me a clue - but nothing anywhere. So, as usual, I am clueless.

I thought of that - as soon as I finished painting it. Sorry. I can sort of understand no binding but the lack of an Electra logo is just weird. There was also no sign of tape residue from the metal tape model/serial we see on a lot of this era Electra's.

The only markings I have are the tone pot - 504042 and 471B - which I believe to be a 500K linear taper (fairly common in late 70's early 80's Ibanez) and vol pot 504072 audio taper and also common to Ibby's.

I believe that Ozarkcannon had the an issue with his headstock logo and made his own for his Outlaw project:

Check out the pics -

Of course if your choice if for originality it might be better to leave it alone.
