Hi; I'm Duncan from Mesa Arizona USA.

I used to teach in a music store in Maryland back in the 'seventies, where I bought (brand-new) an MPC X810 -- the ES-335 thingy with the sunburst finish, tree-of-life neck and gold-plated hardware. I wasn't even aware that anyone knew of Electras; imagine my surprise when I came upon this forum w00t w00t!

Paul said that, although the gold-plated hardware is not a standard issue, it might've been built for a NAMM show or something and was picked up by the store -- and then me. Anyway, it's in great shape, has a couple of modules, and plays like a dream; I'll upload some pictures this weekend.

I just wanted to say hi, and hope to learn a lot from fellow Electra people in the future!

Welcome Duncan. Glad you found this forum. Looking forward to the pics.

An x810, eh? No sense in starting off with the entry-level model for you then? :lol:

Welcome aboard. I'm curious what a X810 went for new back then? Price lists are scarce and their lineup changed frequently, so if you can even find a price list, you can't count on all the models being represented.

I think Paul's memory may be foggy because the one in the Catalog looks to be trimmed in gold:

And the one I own is all gold too:

Now the Burgandy Pro, Maple Pro and Elvin Bishops were all trimmed in Chrome, maybe that's what he was thinking? Warning: Hanging out here can cause sudden loss of disposable income and marital problems! Mike.

Hi...and welcome to the EGAS forums. Nice site and really nice folks here, including me. The 810 is a very nice guitar, I love mine. These were all adorned in gold plating.

Thanks, friends, for the welcoming letters! Regarding the cost: I was teaching and swapped another guitar for it. You might think the trade I mande was kind of silly. The old guitar was sort of like the Electra 2242 lp, with the open book headstock, except instead of the Electra logo, it said "Gibson".

That's right, I traded (even) a black LP for the Electra. Most of the other teachers thought I was crazy (some of you might, too); but I was working four or five nights a week and the 75-pound (well, it SEEMED that heavy) Paul was simply killing my shoulder. Besides, I was playing a lighter pop-style gig (remember, this was in the mid-seventies, when the Carpenters et.al. were the style) so I didn't need the sustain, and besides, I have no particular brand loyalty. I liked the XP better than anything else except an ES-335,and I couldn't find one -- so there you go.

I will get pix of the X up this weekend, and thanks again for the welcome!

There is a lot of information and St Louis Music / Electra resource here;

Tom Presley of SLM is a member as well;

Please post pics of that X810;

I have a Tree of Life as well in a 2267 model:

http://www.rivercityamps.com/electraforum/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=4368&p=22140&hilit=2267#p22140

Which MPC modules do you have and how do they sound in your X810?

That sounds like it was a good trade in my book. While the other LP style may have more $ and name brand weight it all boils down to what you like and prefer. I personally prefer my Electras(especially the X810 and my hollowbody models) over the other name brands. I have had several dedicated Gibson players that offered to do the same for me but I say no way as i like my electras to much and it is always nice to see the reaction of one of the Gibson players when they try mine out. Welcome to the forums :up:

Welcome to the forum. :up: And then there is also the fact that during this time, (as most of us agree) the quality of Electra was as good if not better than Gibson or Fender.

Les Pauls are 50% hype. I like my X330 better than any LP I've ever played that costs 3, 4, 5X more. Just about the only name brand stuff I buy is Cap'n Crunch. Maybe I'm just cheap, but I prefer to think of myself as value conscious. I think you got the better end of the deal by far.
