I've just listed this Super Magnum 2258 Tree of Life on eBay. I thought you all would like to check it out.

Bid on it if you want to find out the reserve. I can't set myself up for sniping. Would you if it was yours? I can tell you that the reserve is quite a bit less than the selling price of the last one that sold to a member of this forum. From what I can see from the pictures, my guitar is in better condition (albeit that the other one was not a bolt-on neck). Good luck! This guitar WILL sell.

Darn....just two posts and the old negative, defensive attitude pops to the surface. I haven't read that kind of thing here in a looong while. We're much nicer to each other because we value each other for the shared love of Electras, knowledge of such, help when we need it, and understanding and support of our EGAS. I think you could have done much better with your response to Ice's compliment and inquirey....or did you miss the compliment altogether?

I think that I'm the person who has the SM referred to above which is in worse condition than yours. A friendly banter here will go much further in helping to sell your guitar than defensiveness and abrasion....which puts lots of folks off, no matter the condition of the guitar.

Ice.....from the clue he gave, his reserve is set at less than 1000.00. You didn't know and he didn't care that you didn't.

I'm absolutely fine with friendly banter. I never said that your guitar was worse, I simply said mine may be in better condition. Difference there. There is a reason that eBay doesn't post the reserve price, and 99.9% of the people on eBay who you ask what the reserve is won't tell you. Does that make me a bad guy? I'm selling a guitar. That's all. Make what you will of it. Just because I (as a general principle) NEVER give out a reserve means that I don't like Electra, or any other guitars? I NEVER end an auction early because someone makes an offer, either. I try to stick to the straight up and ethical approach. Asking someone what the reserve is is like asking someone how much money they make, in my opinion. If you want the guitar, step up to the plate. Simple. It's the way eBay works.

I am sorry if I offended anyone here. I don't tell people what the reserve is. It's that simple, but I guess it makes me a jerk here.

I guess I am not welcome here.

Sorry if that sounded a little rough. I just don't give out the reserve price, that's all. I did say that the reserve is considerably LESS than the $950 you paid for yours, and even if it doesn't meet reserve, I'll still probably sell it to the high bidder if it's close. I do this for a living. I do care, I just stick to my own principles. That includes never pulling something off of eBay and never giving out the reserve. I think I threw a bunch of hints out here, which is more than I normally do. I did enjoy the pics of both of your guitars, which lead me to this forum. Friendly banter, more pictures, anything you want, I can provide. Hell, I'll even post a video if someone wants. This is a nice guitar, and I tried to describe it as accurately as I could. I think everyone here has a pretty good idea of the value, and I intend to sell the guitar. It is a really nice instrument that I wish I could keep, but sadly, I have to sell it. I only protected it with a reserve because it is a bit of an oddball, and I need to cover my investment.

I'm sorry if I put anybody off. I never wanted to convey that someone else's guitar was "worse," by any means. I did qualify that the comp on eBay was different. They are all cool and special. I was only eluding that I want to sell the guitar, and the reserve is reasonable.

I've noticed that these forums (no matter what the subject) lack tone and personality. I didn't mean to come across as a dick.

Hope this clears things up a bit.

No skin off my butt cheeks.

When it comes to Electra's I usually like to offer them up for sale here on the forum first. That way I can be pretty assured that the buyer knows what is being offered. I don't do it 100% of the time, but in most cases I have no real reservation about revealing a reserve. (there's a whole bunch of V's and R's) I figure if I set it properly, it's all good - sort of like setting a starting price. After all, the reserve should be the minimum price you'd be willing to let the guitar go at. I won't set a reserve so low as to take a beating. So there you go....just my take on it.

As far as these forums lacking tone and personality - I disagree. I think the lack of arguments and flaming are refreshing and it tells me that we can still find - and have - civilized discussion in a world that is increasingly cynical and impersonal. I have been offered lots of great advice and tons of help on all sorts of Electra related issues here - all from a community of people that are happy to share their experience. I, for one, don't need to be told why I'm stupid or wrong about something. I prefer to be given constructive criticism, alternatives, or a better solution. I get that here and I appreciate it.

Good luck on your auction - that is a nice guitar that doesn't pop up everyday.

I'm an ebay seller, too - and I've found the guys on here are quite helpful, and I've sold guitar(s) to several......but I very rarely do auction listings and I hate reserves (which cost extra !!) - I do BIN/Best Offer - and everyone knows my BIN's are high, at least to start !!! (I'm over-optimistic sometimes !!)...with BIN/Offer, I don't have to rely on an auction reaching my bottom dollar......the 2258 I sold last year went for $600 (not to a Forum Member, but to a gentleman in Singapore) - and it wasn't as nice as this one.....also, I don't know about tone and personality, but I've found most Forum members have character, uh, I mean, ARE characters !!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry for the offensive roll of the eyes earlier. I thought it would signal what was obvious to me... I was kidding around and did not seriously expect an answer.

You do have a knack for extending left-handed compliments I can say...

Anyway, I was up in the northwoods for the past 10 days so I missed out on bidding on this one. Planning on relisting or had you done so already?

It is a beauty....and if indeed, mint....then it's a fair price if a HS is included. The pickguard will have to be made because the spacing between pups is a bit different than your run of the mill copies or originals.

However, the market still seems to be depressed just a bit...with a few surprises popping up now and then.

If I remember right, Dave sold a bolt SM for a grand sometime within this past year.

It is a beautifull guitar. One I have wanted for over 30 years. I dont see the flaming top, but it does have the LAW SUIT head stock.

Any way to get the words law suit removed from the records here at the forum? Its used far to much when people sell guitars to us hayseeds here. And to join the forum just to sell a guitar.

Sorry to be rude, my views do not reflect those of the other members and are my own. :x

(This is not directed at or ment for any members who regularly sell guitars to other members, or would like to sell to other members here at the forum)

D'ya suppose these one trick ponies join here figgurin' that since we are most likely abit more ardent in our respect and appreciation of these great instruments that we are automatically going to scratch and claw to pay premium plus prices for them? :toopid: :toopid:

I suppose at one time $$ signs were a factor in my thinking about my guitars as well..... thank the Good Lord I grew up and out of that sort of nonsense.

Hey!!!!!! My 185th post..... I love the number 185... :D
