Kind of confused.

Do all X-260's have a mahogany body capped with ash ?
How about the necks ? Mahogany ?
Also, do the original stop tails have the angled ribs ?

This description is throwing me off..... says ash body and maple neck

I've got a line on a X-260 (per seller's description) I'll be looking at Monday. Just want to make sure I know for sure what model I'm looking at.

I'm gonna say - and this is part speculation:
The natural X260N is solid ash - no cap. The Walnut should be mahogany/ash cap - I think the description says solid mahogany.
I believe all Invicta styles have maple necks.
I'm not sure what you mean by angled ribs - like some of the Ibanez Musician/Artist? Either way all the Invicta's I've seen have standard straight through Gibson style tailpieces.

The descriptions can be confusing sometimes. I've wondered about the necks more than once but I do think they are 3 (or more) pc maple on Invicta's - For sure on X960. X260 does have a mahogany look to it but it is also 3 (orMore) pcs.

In the end, the construction is very good regardless and I'd be most concerned that the original pickups and tuners were there. I don't get overly put off by replacement bridges or tails since they are pretty generic anyway.

Hope that helps and I hope I'm correct

Here is a clean X260 in Walnut that I'm offering up:

And here is a picture of both variations, the X260 and X260n Blonde:
Image

Near as I can tell, and I am not an authority, just someone who's owned a couple of these, is that the early X260's were made out of Mahogany, including the three piece neck. Eventually they transitioned into a Ash/Maple plank body and three piece maple neck like we see on other X200 models. The Flame is odd... I've seen a handful up close, and I still can't tell what is going on. It appears to be a really thin (like 1/32nd of an inch!) veneer that could be real flame, but the more I stare at it I wonder if it's wood burned on there... I can not say for certain, but it doesn't look like your classic Maple flame that changes color as you move the body.

The descriptions in catalogs, advertising and other Marketing blurbs have to be taken at face value. Most guitars would evolve over the production run, and the old 'Subject to Change' clause is in full effect here. As far as the tailpiece goes, the ones above in the picture are pretty standard thread through stop tails. These also vary wildly in weight. My two X260 Walnut stained Invictas made five months apart differ in weight by almost three pounds! One is 6.5 lbs, one is 9.2lbs. Go figure.

Feel free to ask more questions, and if you don't like the one local you're going to see, drop me a line, Mike.

Jead, thanks for taking time to answer. The catalog descriptions are ambiguous ... and frustrating. But as you say, once you hold one of these the build quality is obvious.

The tail piece design is the one pictured here

edit : correct link....same one as the one in my OP

Hi Mike, thanks for that info. The tail piece in that link may be non original.

The one I'm looking at tomorrow will involve a trade on an amp I have. The X-270 I just got dried my wallet up cash-wise.

I see it now. That looks to be an Ibanez quick change tailpiece. Definitely not original.

Ok, actually the shop had an Ibanez with that tail piece on it. Now I know, thanks.

Bad news is they sold the X-260 Saturday. So I never got to even look at it. Bummer.
