What's the interesting thing besides their obvious charms???

One joins the body at the 19th fret, the other joins at the 20th fret. (I had to look quite a few times myself) If you look at the pickguard hole on each, it makes it more obvious. I would like to see the rear heal on each if possible X940. I'm assuming they both have foil serial number tags, as opposed to a stamped serial number on the back of the headstock, so that probably wont help too much. Both have the wave headstock, so they are they pretty much the same vintage, post 1976.

I would say that they may have been made at different places, but that's difficult to substantiate for sure. I know there is a urban legend that says anything with a wave headstock was made at Matsumoku, but these Semi's in particular seem to vary a bit (even with the very few that I've held in person). The heal on my Maple Pro is completely different from my X810. I'll have to dig it out and take a look at where the neck mates up with it now (gee thanks man). Also the Maple Pro has a serial number on the headstock starting with F77, which is different than the numbering we typically see from Matsumoku, but I guess they didn't start using the YMMxxxx scheme until January of 1980. Possibly Tom can clue us in as to the origin of the the Many SemiHollow models made in the mid-late 70's? I have a feeling they came from a variety of factories.

DUH! I stared at those for a while thinking it must have been some kind of fret spacing thing. So obvious now. I agree that S/N and neck heel construction would be interesting. I just checked Elvin and Jazz Strad - both have the 19th fret right over the joint in back of the neck amd meet the body in the same general area. Both have letter prefix S/N's. Elvin is a non-wave 76 and Jazz is wave 77. The only other difference I see is that Elvin straps to the upper horn and Jazz straps behind the neck. I see your 810's have that setup also but both are waves. Strange little differences.

Me, too... it's one of the primary reasons I love this forum. I hadn't seen this particular detail documented previously, and this is certainly the right place to do it. I would love to hear Tom weigh in here, as well.

In the spirit of "be careful what you say, or at least how you say it"... I'll take "or whatever" for $300, Alex.

So if could you kindly pm me for my shipping information. I think it might be a good idea to send that gal my way for an extended rendezvous/test drive to make sure she is up to snuff. I'm thinking 4-6 months minimum to start. After that we can assess the situation and just play it by ear from there.

Of course I'm only offering this for YOUR peace of mind after all. I mean think about it...we can't have folks getting taken 'round here now, can we?

Nothing to worry about WM. I've been blessed TO THE EXTREME in my life with the very best music therapist I could ever dream of. I'd probably come down with a case of the delicious tremors if she wasn't in my life.

@jead: my Electra affliction is well in hand. Now if we were discussing my Westone addiction there might be, just might be mind you, a cause for mild concern. But I appreciate you keeping me in your thoughts! (Oh yeah, and JD has replied.... the ferret yawns at dawn)
