Be aware of the different heal shapes on different necks.

So my wife finally turned the tables on me and purchased this body as my birthday gift. After thinking through a few ideas on it I decided on a pup config for it.

Since I've not seen an x195 available in just about forever I am going to attempt to re-create one, at least insofar as the electronics are concerned. You can all thank Joe for this as he was nice enough to allow me to pick up his assortment of vintage humbuckers from him.

1st things first: Is there a wiring diagram for Mr. Presley's S-H-S arrangement somewhere on the forum or in the archives I have failed to spot, or does someone have one mapped out from their x195?

2nd things second: I am soliciting opinions as to which HB will go into this project. I already have 3 singlecoils from ElectraFest '11 so the bridge and neck are taken care of. Choices include MMK45 (standard), MMK45 (double bladed), MMK53, MMK61, SuperMagnaFlux, Gotoh "PAF", Maxon Square/Round pole combo, SD Pearly Gates, Gibson BurstBucker. I also have the UBC from my Westone Genesis I available.

The rest I am still in flux over what I will be attempting to find for neck, hardware and the like. Getting a wiring diagram is my only concern at the moment.

Not sure about the wiring - but for the pickup I vote 1)Burstbucker 2)rails. Seems like you have a bunch of nice pups to choose from and really can't go wrong with any but your choice might depend on the output of the SC's. I'd try to find a HB that won't overpower the single coils.

Well I just reread the archive entry on the x195 and see that not every HB I listed will be a viable candidate. I forgot that a coil tap is a feature of the wiring plan so that leaves fewer choices. Much as I really want an MMK other than a 45 in it I don't either of them can be split.

Anybody experienced with a Pearly Gates? I looked hard at getting one to sub in my wife's Genesis I while a friend sorted out the dead UBC it came with, but ended up putting in a Parallel Axis Trembucker instead.

Well my new friend, I'd like to think I know how to wire just about anything... and I have links to a couple of good sites with more. I'm in the process of assembling a tele standard style HSS. I'm using stacked pots on the tele control plate master vol/neck tone on one, and mid blender/ bridge tone on the other for the humbucker, should rock.

The above is just an example, the trick is in the switching, there's a multitude of options. What do you want it to be able to do? I rewired my strat to be able to run all 3 singlecoil pups, bridge/mid in series with the neck in parallel, sounds like a hollowbody (IN A STRAT!) and I still have all the other pickup options except mid alone. Any 3 pup scheme should be able to be modified to work... I'd go see Seymour Duncan's website for some inspiration, they probably have a scheme that would work for SHS... I've been eyeballing them Pearly Gates pups too...

kinda need to know exactly what the 3-way is doing to complete the picture... it is doing as above, with the neck and bridge pups? (standard 3-way wiring for those 2 pups?

and is it a north or south coil tap?

I was wondering if I can use the standard wiring scheme for H-S-H like on my Phoenix but would need to figure out how to split the humbucker rather than turn the 'fat" setting on, correct?

Plus not tap the singles, obviously. Anyone know of anybody with an x195? Arthur? JD?

yeah I've been mulling it over too. I'll work up a drawing... personally I'd ditch the phase switch I think they are too subtle and just add complexity. The wiring would be very similar to the one above as far as the switch... plus push pull pots for all three...Vol Tone Tone. I'd pull up the vol to add the mid bucker and pull up the tones for coil cut and phase... There'd be no need for a tone on the mid because it would piggyback with whichever pup was on via the 3 way. Caps are a taste thing too, I'd start with .022 bridge and more at the neck for that nice bluesy tone .047 works for me...

I searched here but found no wiring archive.... might be a nice addition to this site.

Nice. Good job, exactly like the original description. But, you didn't PAY them to draw that didya??? Hmm...I was browsing thru DGB's site, it's a little different, everything is in schematic, but it's very extensive... nice future reference to bookmark.

No. I just used their component drawings.
