I have too many projects!

Thanks folks. I hope that some of the excruciating details will help others not only to give some repairs a try, but more importantly, NOT to make the same mistakes I did. The project was just over 2 months to complete - almost a full month of letting the lacquer cure enough to work with. If I had to do it again tomorrow I'd estimate 5/6 weeks and I wouldn't even dream of going near it for at least 3 weeks after finishing the lacquer. I'd also start the finish with a couple coats of spray and then 2 or 3 heavy coats of brush on lacquer to get things smoothed out a lot faster.

Why lacquer finish? The new poly finishes are so much better. Regardless, it looks great!!

If lacquer gets banged up it's pretty easy to make a perfect repair - the poly, if it gets banged up, stays banged up. Having said that, every Electra I have has some kind of poly type finish (I think). Poly is much harder and more durable but also more fragile if that makes sense.

And finally.... I had a bone nut made a month or so ago and it does make the plastic one seem like, well, plastic. Over the last 4-5 months I have found myself going to this guitar more frequently than any of my other Electras. Maybe because I've been leaving it out of the case to cure more completely, but probably because it's just fun to play!

I'm not a fan of the SG body style - but this one sure deserves a second look - nice job;
