I like to upgrade and then flip. I've had a chance that way to play a decent variety of models and figure out what I really like. I keep falling for and then selling X140's, X185's, Workingmen and X960's. I have a dose of Ibanez Illness at the moment:

That is one of the funky, kitschy axes I had ever seen. I remember it from some video I saw back in the 80's on MTV (you know, when MTV actually played music videos) of some obscure German band. They played Surfin' USA, sang it in German and one of the guitarist had one of those in the video.

A bunch of Krauts covering the Beach Boys..... outa' sight! The drummer's timing was absolute perfection, metronomic to the extreme. The diction of the lead singer and harmonizing voices was eerie.

But that Framus.... quintissentially surf rockin' bliss...

Yes, the Can Op'ner. If my memory serves Gibson actually got Carlos Santana to be pictured playing one of them for the catalogue that year, or a print advert or whatever.

Musta'cost them a small fortune to get him to agree...

I'm curious why that was so cheap? And my $50 Westone Spectrum GT bass came in a hard case with a 25' cable and strap included.

My brother in law has a Ibanez guitar like the one pictured, with the butterflies embossed on the pickups and the triangular tail piece. What are those things bringing these days? He got it new, and wouldn't ever sell it, but we've discussed values, and I'm curious as to the current fair market values. TIA!

Ibanez models with the Cloud tailpiece are fairly common. The Super 80 (flying fingers) pickups less so. Prices can vary wildly on these. The pickups alone on a good day would get at least $200. A set of 4 sure grip I knobs could be close to $100 and the clincher would be the tuners. If they are pearloid velve-tunes, they're probably a minimum of $3-400. I don't recommend parting these guitars out but sometimes, if the body or binding is particularly destroyed, the parts are worth more than the guitar.
