Reranch and Stewmac both have good tints.....you can vary darkness or shade by cutting with alcohol, try on scrap first.
Joe

As Ozarkcannon says you want a tint, not a stain. It is very hard to stain a guitar body evenly. The grain on the edge reacts differently from the top and back. Check out info here http://projectguitar.ibforums.com/index ... owforum=31

I've found some tint! In Hervey Bay!! It's a discontinued line and as well as the green, there's red and blue so if this looks OK when I test it - I have the scrap veneer with me - then I shall purchase some red and blue! I got the last of the black though....

Do you blokes want any of this stuff; it's about A$7.50 a small bottle....

edit....

I'm a believer...

... off to buy some more colours!!

Had you tried the black tint first, resand off, then the green to accentuate the grain John?

That first mockup is quite nice on it's own though!

... Given that it's a burst type finish, with the grain picked out with black, and I like that red as well.. :hyper:

Go for the green!

The others look good too but we need more green guitars.

Yeah, I think so! I hate changing the plan on the fly, and besides, I plumped for the green 5 months ago!! That's right, kids..... 5 months ago!!

I like the brightness of the green. the green I used on my x-640 was a bit darker than I wanted, but I never made the trip to the "good store" to see what they had for colors....

The red I did on the Concord bass body was a tint, and it came out nice and bright, but I didn't do any black grain treatment like the other...

this is gonna be fun to watch come together!!!

Back under way, kids.... Here we are with the veneer sanded back and feathered into the body, which as a by-product has resulted in a nicer feel to the body; less "slabby"?! :D

Anyway, just a little fiddling with small amounts of filler on the back where the veneer cracked oe broke on the edges, and a little more sanding.... Then tinting!! Black first, then sanded back, then the green.....

Just a little timid here; I'm going to get one shot at this....

Surely you can find the odd bit lying about that is close enough in grain to test on first?

...and yes, I did call you surely...

Yeah, yeah; I had plenty of offcuts to practice on and get the colour strength right, but still.... you get one shot at this, eh! I'm pretty sure I've got everything as close to right as I can, including the use of sanding sealer AFTER tinting the veneer....

And don't get me wrong; I'm really looking forward to forging ahead, but as always, festina lente will be my mantra!

For those whose Latin is like mine - poor! -, that's "make haste slowly".....
