Hey all,

I know it's not an Electra, but figured somebody here might be interested in the old SLM Alvarez guitars. Also, I'm under the impression due to a previous post that gear other than electras can be posted here; if I missed something and I'm mistaken just let me know and I will remove it immediately.

The 5039 was limited to a production number of 800. The commemorative sticker on the back of the headstock has been removed so I'm not sure what number this particular one is. It has an old headstock repair; it's well done and extremely sturdy. The bridge is lifting slightly but I had it checked out by my local tech and was assured it's not lifting enough to warrant resetting it. There's a scrape on the front of the lower bout and the finish is sort of dull/milky around it. A decent ding on the bass side shoulder. Other than that it's just got the normal minor wear and tear you'd expect on and old guitar (light scratches, minor buckle rash, etc).

The neck angle is perfect, the action is low, and it plays and sounds great. There's a slight buzz at the 14th fret on the low E string, but that's it (who plays the bass string that high anyway?). It's definitely the best Japan made 'lawsuit' style guitar I've ever had in my hands (it's a cross between a Guild, and am told it has some aspects of a Martin). The sound on it is unbelievable. Only selling because I've moved away from dreadnaughts and I need to fund a parlor guitar I'm having built.

Here's a link to some pictures:

It's actually all packed up and ready to go, as someone sent me a nice offer on ebay, but after I accepted it their account ended up closing so the sale did not go through. It's still up there if you want a very detailed description. Feel free to reply with any questions, or pm me if you want to talk about the price. Like I said, I'd like to get it sold soon as it's all packed up, and I'd of course be willing to go lower to forum members here than I would through ebay.

Thanks guys

That looks like a very nice acoustic, thickey.

I picked up an Alvarez 5080N for my wife several months back that has an absolutely amazing amount of tone for a thinline model. It is from the mid 70's as well if I am remembering correctly.

Good luck with your sale!

Thanks for the kind words! Yeah, the older Alvarez guitars are great. I used to have either a '77 or a '78 Alvarez Dove copy. That thing could sing, but didn't sound quite as nice as this one. My buddy even had a newer one, though I forgot the model, and that had a really nice tone too.

Normally, it is indeed Electra and a little SLM kit that goes on here, but we're a small community and as long as everyone's cool with it, then it's probably OK to post other brands of kit.

What do you blokes reckon?

So long as it is done approiatly and not abused I see no problem as Alvarez was after all a SLM brand also. I love my Electras but I also own an Alvarez and a few other non Electra models as well so I am always interested as my past egas shows. lol..
