That's looking very nice. When I re finished my 2259 I quickly wiped on black walnut stain and even quicklier wiped it off. Then another very light sanding just in case the stain raised the grain at all. The trick was to get the black in to some of the open wood pores but also to get it wiped off fast enough so it did'nt really color the top at all - just filling in little areas.

Clearly you've done your homework and I think you'll be very happy with the black highlight. Now, why do you only get one shot at it? What's the base for the tint - lacquer? water? I'd figure you would probably want at least 2 coats of color either way.

The bloke who did this is an absolute genius with an airbrush, and his quality shows the inadequacy of my preparation..... still, too late to do anything about the wee marks and nicks; time for the clear!!
