I have an outside chance of picking up a complete set of 12 MPC modules.
They guy selling these wants me to make him an offer on the lot.

I'm fairly new to this whole Electra scene and would like some advice.

What do you think would be a fair offer for the lot?
I've seen individual modules go through the roof on Ebay and I'm hoping to get these at a decent price by bundling them up.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You may want to keep your cards close your to vest around this bunch Ed! Firstly, many of the MPC modules are shall we say, primitive (weak, noisy, don't do much) and others are next to useless (imho). Having said that, they've held their value and then some over the years for collectors. I'll pick them up if I see them at reasonable prices, but I'm not itching to complete the set as a lot of folks are prone to.

If the seller knows what he has (player as opposed to say an Estate bidder), he'd be well within his rights to want $900 or more for the complete set, assuming they all work reasonably well. $600 would be a steal, you could keep the ones you like, and probably make most of that back selling the ones that don't tickle your fancy. They do vary in desirability and value, but figure at least $75 each on average (hmmm, $900). As a cautionary tale, probably one out of five I've acquired didn't work... I hear ya' on the modules.
I've got a few now that I'm not all that thrilled with (especially the Tank Tone and Treble/Bass Expander)
I do really like the Compressor and the Dynamic Fuzz (and the Phase Shifter and Power OD are not bad either).

I figure if I get a good deal on the lot I'll offer up the ones I don't want here (at cost)

I agree with Mike in that you do not see an entire set of all 12 together often. As Mike mentioned some of the MPC modules do not do much but for an entire set I would think anything under 900 a great deal if all are in good working order. There are always folks looking for the MPC modules it seems especially the harder to find ones such as Flanger, compressor etc. Good Luck

The flanger is at the top of my list.

I like the treble/bass expander and totally agree on the compressor. D-Fuzz, as has been said before, is what the power OD should have been.

As for the price on all 12 - I think $900 would really be pretty good. I would probably not sell a complete set for less than $1200 myself mainly because the Flanger, Octave Box, Auto Wah and Frognose can be pretty hard to find. The usefulness of many of the MPC's is debatable for sure - the scarcity is not. I've had a lot of the POD's and phase shifters and EVERY one is different from its brother - particularly the phasers. Whether thats because some of the components are dying or whether it was original Quality Control - I can't say. I have 3 phase shifters at the moment - one is fantastic, one is good and one is sort of weak. So....be sure to try each and every module before buying.

Mike's advice is right on - you may pay a pretty penny for the whole lot - but having all 12 would be great for the right person -

I've had several MPC's over the years and now am down to the Flanger and Compressor, along with 2 Phase Shifters and 2 Power OD's modified by our own Thorny;

I have had the Flanger and Compressor on board on the X340 for years -

I swap out the Phase Shifter and Power OD's in my X330 - sometimes I put both POD's for some real power - saw that in the MPC User’s Manual – effect no. 9 – “Fat Rat” – so I tried it -

Haven't tried 2 Phase Shifters though .........

I still might be able to get a few from the seller (he has two complete sets0.

Did he want too much, or not want to part with a whole set? I like the tank tone personally, see my Leslie West video for a demo. Haven't ever used a Tube Sound, AutoWah module or compressor module. Both the Flanger modules I've played weren't working right, so the jury is still out on that one. Good luck.
