.... like a fool, I didn't copy the link, but there's an Electra for sale on about page 295...

The catalogue makes breathtaking reading; what a man he was!!

Here it is - an Electra MPC X320 - modified with a 3 way toggle - no case - but it was owned by the man himself - :

Nice axe - and asking $150-$250?

I'm going to put a bid in on his Social Security card...

Kidding aside, what does the price next to an item signify? I read the first ten pages and didn't find any indication. Is it a starting price, a educated guess of what it will go for? Basically some of them are really low (that is what I think the item will ultimately go for), and others are way optimistic (like 40 grand for a stained 2x4 constructed mixing console). Just curious.

if you zoom in, you can see it is damaged/repaired. the jack plate looks to be about 5" long :) and the wires from the MPC cavity are totally gone. I'm guessing that's why the price is as such...

The prices signify the auction house estimate of where a given item "should" end up. AFAIK it's basically a minimum reserve price auction - If the min price is met, it'll sell.
As far as the actual guitar goes - I don't care much about the condition - it's more of a "Les Paul owned this Electra" thing. Of course it would be nice if the guitar actually works - I'd bet it's pretty gutted and would be a fairly significant re-wiring project. It also appears to have some kind of replacement pickups and 2 of the tuners have been switched to wafflebacks.... Tuners I've got - amphenols I can get (I think) appropriate pickups - iffy ....... So it's confirmed - I'm an impulsive jackass.

Gracias mcb - I somehow doubt it will fall into my hands but if it does I'll have a summer project. I wonder what's going on behind that huge jack plate.

I think that Mr. Paul enjoyed tinkering and experimentation and I think everyone here pretty much knows that. Perhaps curiosity got the better of him and he just had to see what Messrs. Presley and Karpowicz were up to.

Ha!... Les Paul copies an Electra design feature and gets Gibson to market it as yet another of "his" endless model variants. Just think of the braggin' rights Tom would have clear claim to in addition to those he already enjoys... :o :o :o

Oh well, back on Terra Firma... what sorta pups would you be needing, jead?

I won this guitar at the auction. Important to note with guitars like this, you would never want to mess with anything on it. The reason I bought it, is it clearly was tinkered on by Les himself including handwritten notes in the body cavity.

BTW- I got the steal of a lifetime. This was literally the lowest priced guitar at the auction @ 1100

I'm glad to hear you are happy with your purchase. I take it you won't be playing it. Not meaning to rain on your parade but the guitar has been pretty well savaged - perhaps in an attempt to figure out what was going on electronically. The missing tuners are something of a mystery too. At any rate, it may be playable as is, but a far cry from the factory condition. From a purely historical standpoint it's quite interesting - so congratulations!

Bigds - I replied to your other thread so we can keep it here - seems busier.
Can ya tell us what ya thin he did with it technically?
Is it playable or does it need work?
What kinda paperwork comes with something like that?

What was the next cheapest guitar?

I'd love to see what the take is for each guitar on the sale. I mean he had some shoddy generic epiphones he probably never played and would be curious to see what they went for.

I'm sure he 'messed' with the electra - which is really cool.

The value in the guitar is specifically because it is beaten up and toyed with. I take delivery from the auction house in a couple of weeks. At an auction like that, you never leave with the item but get it a few days later.

Having watched the auction in its entirety for two days, there were a lot of guitars that he owned. There were few that he had tinkered with. Most of the guitars sold had no notes and were still in their plastic.

Changing anything on this guitar would be like trying to fix an edison lightbulb after the filament burned out.

On the question for prices, they are all now listed on the juliens website. From what I can tell I think there were a couple that went in the high 2's, everything else was 3-5 with a couple of huge outliers on the high side.
