Hi Guys, Tom,

First time poster. I recently came to own this guitar – a lovely Electra Omega X230, set neck, flamed maple with the 'transitional' circle-cut headstock. It's suffered some dings and scratches but fared remarkably well – all the hardware (as far as I can tell) is here and is stock. It still performs flawlessly. Tom Presley – I just want to echo others here and thank you for your work in making these instruments possible. This guitar is a BLAST to play – blows away my other guitars in terms of playability & tone. Really, really fun and sounds incredible. I just found out you've been posting here and was excited at the opportunity to try and find out more about it.

The serial number sticker is gone from the back of the headstock (you can still see where it was), but there was a old sales tag in the case, and it says the serial number is "10606." I've only seen one other pic online (after MUCH searching) of an X230 with this particular headstock, and was wondering if you could shed some light on the serial numbering scheme (if there's any way to tell anything from it?). Is there any way to ID a particular stretch of time when it was likely made? I was born in the spring of 1976 – I'm pretty sure that this guitar was manufactured close to that time. There's something about playing a guitar that is the same age as yourself that is sublime. I look forward to growing old playing on this instrument and then leaving it to my son.

RCS has a Semi Hollow with the 'Cutout' headstock which happens to have a stamped serial number on the back of the headstock, starting with I think F76, which dates it to June of 1976. By 1977 we start to see the Wave headstock show up. We believe that the cutout was a way of using up already made neck blanks, and the date seems to coincide with the Norlin lawsuit (even if it wasn't directed at Matsumoku), so I would say 1976. Congrats, looks nice. Many of the Omegas got retro-fitted with a 3-way and the standard 2 volume 2 tone configuration, so its always nice to see a stock one. Mike.

Thanks Mike! I wonder how many ended up with the cutout headstocks. Since I've been researching I have also noticed how many retrofits are there. Glad I'm able to play with the stock (5-way) tone spectrum control – it's crazy fun. I especially love the in-series, out-of-phase 5th setting...

Very nice Omega. I agree with Mike on the year for the cutout headstocks. Here are a few shots of my Omega models that show all the headstock types. The open book would be up to 1975 then followed by the cutout in or around 1976 and then the wave after that. The wave headstock models were all made by Matsomuku but the earlier models were hit and miss and some were made by Fujigen and other manufacturers. They are all great guitars.
