I have been corresponding with Doug (quoted below) and he sounds like these bridges are going to be very nice -- I believe he knows what he is talking about !! Check this out:
"Say, I was going to write you at some point to let you know I am having 12 NOS Matsumoku
bass bridges modified and offered here. I'm keeping 4-5.
They are chrome base, big brass rectangular saddles, not too unlike a stock Fender plate but way supeior saddles than barrels. String thru, these were on Westone or Electra basses.
There were two generations of this bridge.

These are the 2nd being modified to be superior to the more correct 1st.
and I am essentially completing their engineering, having the saddles milled shorter from the underneath like the first gen w/ just a a wee bit more taken off.

The objective, is what is the ULTIMATE P / J Bass bridge to rule the tone universe as
well as offered as an improved product for the vintage japanese basses that were equipped w/ the 1st gen. These things are Badass and Hipshot Killers, I know I worked for Hipshot on the "trem -Setter" development in the 80's. ANY barrel saddle bridge, string thru or not, doesn't have a chance. Feel free to foward this email.
Options:
Chrome base, gold saddles.
Black base & saddles.
Gold base and saddles.
Black Base gold saddles.
Gold Base, Black Saddles.

Mounting instructions will be provided, very limited offering, we may build a 3rd gen,
if these go well.

I have also designed a 5 string version, string-thru-body-bridge that will allow for a regular P / J bass body to be converted to a five, as long as the regular size neck headstock has been cut 5 on a side. There is plenty of neck on a P-bass nut width, and I'm leaning toward narrower for mine.

If going the custom neck route, I strongly also advise ordering the headstock reversed, like a lefty. MORE string tension a 34" 5 string desperately needs.
Slighlty narrower feel to it, for all of us who dislike all the wide 5's.
Doug"

He says these should be available sometime in the next month -- I will provide info as I get it....
