Hi everybody,

I just got my pawnshop jewel Electra MPC Les Paulish guitar. I am in the process of setting this baby up like I like. The PuPs were set too high and some of the allen screws on the PuPs were definitely too high.

Now I would like to know if you can visually distinguish a Super Magnaflux from a regular Magnaflux after I take the strings off and loosen the PuPs to have a peek in the PuP cavity.

Also on my Electra MPC the volume and tone pots are in TWO rows! I have not seen in the Catalogues one like that. Also The plate or sticker with the serial # 27579 is there but the model is BLANK. I am going to try to get some pictures. Also is the serial # significant in that you can identify the guitar farther?

does it have a gibson like headstock, or a "wave/fan" style?

two rows? will definitely want to see pics, front and back....

hmmmm....

looks like a x-960 Ultima MPC, with a sunburst finish....

http://www.rivercityamps.com/electra/x960.php

it's got the Ultima body shape (tel curve on upper bout) and the same neck joint. is it the smooth set neck joint then, and not neck through?

any pics of the front?

I wonder if it was refinished when the guts were removed???

Thats right it looks to be a set neck and not a thro body neck. I have a through body neck guitar and I have a set neck Telecaster. No the guitar was not refinished. I need to take the pictures out side as the digital camera I have doesn't do well inside.
Thanks for the information.

I have the intonation set very close. It takes me a while to get it like I like it. I get it close as I can on 12th fret then check the 5th and 7th frets making compromises til it rings true. I put some 12s D'Addario's and I had to make a slight neck adjustment. This guitar had no string dinngs I could see or feel. It wasn't played much. It really has a distint tone. The way the strings are spaced and the neck width makes it possible to fingerstyle plucking the strings hard and this comes through. They are nice guitars and well made.

The body looks like it could be a slab of mahogany. Well at anyrate I'm very happy to have traded an old 22 rifle for it as 22 have been outlawed around where I live.

Five and a half years..!!! That's a long wait for a picture of the front, and a heck of a bump. The photo of the back shows a pretty tight grain, so it may be Mahogany, jury is still out on the finish being original. This would be a cool guitar to do a photo essay on. Mike.

yeah, I was doing some searching on the x-960, and the pics were still there and I thought I'd bump it to see if anyone had anymore info on it....

This one really is an oddball, and I think it may be a prototype or a very early Ultima. Here is the blurry shot of the front that was posted long ago:

And here is the back again, compare it to the back of the production X960 in the following photo, the two covers are completely different, and the location of the MPC switches ends up in a different spot too:

I can't tell from the blurry pic if this is a arch top or slab body. The picture of the back totally looks like a slab bodied heal, identical to the heal on the X260 Invicta, X250/X270 Powered EQ's and X960 Ultima. The fact that it has binding on the top, big inlays and the unusual sunburst finish sets it apart from anything I've seen before. It looks like they were trying to use the standard MPC rear covers on a slab bodied model. Would love to see it in person, or better pictures. I think it may be a one off. Mike.

here's the x950. it may have been a really late x950 (gutted) with the x960 type neck/body joint... (another variation for my spreadsheet)...

the control holes are set-up like x950, it was just gutted and modded to stock LP layout...
