Welcome to the Forums Nocher. The output jack on a MPC is a Stereo jack, although the signal is only mono, it serves to turn on (or connect) the battery when the (mono) phono plug is inserted, shorting the ring with the sleeve. I was going to reply that the symptoms you mentioned sounded like a dead battery, but by the end of your post you had figured it out. When you used the stereo plug, the battery wasn't connected yet, and that's why the signal went dead when either of the effects were engaged. Do you have any other Electras? There are lots of models besides the MPC's.

Yes, using head phones only gives one side on mine.
