 Post subject: Westone pickups

Hi all, I've got a Westone Leader ('83) with some VERY high output single coil pickups. I think they're the original but the guitar has been SERIOUSLY messed with (I paid $30 at a flea market) Untill I found this site I thought it was from the '40's or '50's and was made for country. The bridge has been replaced with a stopbar tailpiece, the tuners appear to be from a nylon string acoustic and the pickguard cut down to about 1/4.

Anyway I was wondering if anyone know anything about the pickups, they sound SWEET. They look like the one's in the catalogue scans on this site (but thats about all that looks the same)

I'm hoping Westone bought them from some company still making them, but this is probably wishfull thinking.

Oh yeah, it's wired with 2 vol, 1 tone, no switches... not that it matters I just find the mods amusing.

lo :)

any numbers / marks etc. on back of pickups? any pictures of pickups? The Westone lead is as rare as a three eyed jack? I thought only one model was made with single HB.

Bye

If it is pre 1988 and the pickups are not aftermarket most likely they are no longer available. :( Any kind of nomenclature may help. I am not familiar with the Leader, it's a new one on me.

Sorry it took me so long to reply,

The body and headstock shape are Concord, I thought "Leader" was a sub-name, but considering the changes made the neck could have come from a leader and the body a Concord, or a prototype, not that that could raise the value of this beast, it's as defiled as it gets.

The pickups are black, with silver metal bottoms, no writing

Right now it's in pieces, it sounded great but just couldn't hold tune, So I'm adding new tuners and an ajustable tailpiece, evdentually, right now the pickups are in a generic "V" copy I've got, and I belive the sound I like mostly comes from the pickups.
