Greetings ElectraHeads,

Do any of you have an X199 you'd like to part with? I'm especially interested in project examples though a drop dead minty will do in a pinch. Would also consider a Spectrum FX, though my own preference has always been the X199 over the FX.

Let me know. My son has decided to cast off his Fender obsession after I lent him one of mine. Now I need to cinch his conversion. ;-)

Does it have to be a set neck? The (Westone) LX is seen often, and except for it's bolt-on neck, they've got the same specifications as an FX. The FX is a nice ride, and the last ones had the scooped out heal :

Good luck, tell us how it turns out!

Any particular reason why you are more partial to the x199?

Oh, and Mike... your's is missing a switch, you know...

Yeah, x189. I have a number of Phoenix models, which I love, but the X199 is my fave. :-)

You got it, Ice. ;-) I'm looking specifically for an X199, not an FX.

In my experience, the necks on the X199s are a bit smaller (dimension, not scale)than the FX. I have lined them up in the past and done comparisons; it's not a huge difference, but it's more like what I'm used to after 45+ years of playing. Now that I'm thinking about it, I suppose I prefer the X199 bridge/nut configuration, as well.

The rest of it... neck heel, body contour, finish options, et cetera, are of secondary importance.

So what have ya got for me? ;-)

Sorry x189. I meant to say proendorser.

Sorry, pro. I meant you, not x189.

Now, that white FX. I could live with that. I definitely think that's the best looking of the FXs. Thanks for responding. ;-)

I'm not following you Ice, what am I missing?

I agree that the neck on the FX seems just a tad bigger than a Phoenix neck profile. The late FX's also had a angled headstock, which I really like, and I think was never the case with the Phoenix models (somebody will surely correct me if I'm mistaken).

There are a number of 'testimonials' out there that say the older pickups were hotter than the later Rail type MMK's, but some of the single coil sounds on these are just superb. If I need more gain (distortion) I'll just adjust my amp a tweak.

Best of luck, I'm sure your patience will be rewarded!

...and the aforementioned "bent" headstock...

I believe you are correct on that one Mike. The back angled headstock came later during the Westone portion of the model line. My wife's x390 (Pantera) has an aggressively angled headstock that starts slightly below the nut and is approximately 20° backswept.

Never have explored the Westone line that much - but these are great looking - and appear to be players;

The 2 pictured here are real knockouts - and Corsair thanks for the link to the other one -

Sure would like to play one.

Thanks,

A bit pricey indeed, John. :o I couldn't tell from the pics but I suppose the winds on the machineheads are in counterclockwise fashion being from New Zealand and all.

Top of the Westone line as well?? :-? In the Spectrum line perhaps so...
