Say, mortarman - how do those wide range humbuckers compare to Fender's from that era? Are they fairly accurate copies, or are they doing their own thing?

Great guitar. Had a small neck as I recall, but a very good sounding guitar. Didn't have an original to compare to!

Well I have had someone that actually owns an original Fender 72 model and he offered to trade me for this one after he played it so I guess I can say the pickups are a bit better than the originals. I was never tempted to let it go. this is a very nice example that I was fortunate enough to talk Thorny out of this one. Plays like a dream even with the smaller neck.

Not cutting down the guitar at all - it is just a personal preference thing. I loved the guitar. I just don't care for slim necks, and that one had one. I sold a Zion for that reason too, as well as my X810 and those were fantastic guitars too. I don't think I have seen another one of these in person, so I don't know if they all were slim necks or not. Be thankful that neck was smaller, or you'd only likely have seen it in a picture

It was a great guitar. I hope you continue to enjoy it!

It remains a favorite and a great player. The neck is slim but nice once you get used to it. Great sound and I love it as it is a very lightweight guitar and comfortable to play.

that is backwards, 1Meg pots will provide the brightest tone of the 3 you mention; because it has high resistance, less of the high frequencies bleed to ground and are attenuated to the output.

that is the reason why a 250k is typically used, to take advantage of the smoothing effect of bleeding off the highest frequencies of a single coil. (even when at full volume on the pot)
500k for a humbucker, because there is already diminished high frequency response from the greater impedance of the pickups, so we want less high frequency loss to the output. (so a stronger block against signal loss)

having a higher pot value is just putting a bigger stopper between the signal and the ground.
