I bought this '76 Electra new in October of 1976 in Cahokia, IL, it seems to be just a little different than others I've seen. I was just trying to get the exact model number, I can only find a serial number on it.
Also, in your opinion, what is the value of this guitar? I haven't played it in many years, but it always had the best sound.

Hello and welcome to the forum-you are the other side of the river from me. What you have is a 2242 Super Rock transition model- early models had the Gibson style open book headstock, transition models were somewhere around '75-'76, then they all had the wave style headstock afterwards. Bolt neck models don't command the big bucks, but they're great players-better than most modern imports by a mile-check the thread on ebay sales to get an idea of value, usually in the $200-$300 range with some exceptions of course. Welcome and play the strings off that sucker! :D
Joe

Yup! A very nicely aged Black Rock you've got yourself there Huntrz... I'm :love:ing that "pineapple" TRC on yours.

Not all that unusual to see the SN sticker minus the model as that was often just handwritten onto the sticker after it had been applied.

Welcome to the forums... what sorta dog(s) do you have?

Thanks Ozark, actually I am in Southwest Illinois now, about 50 miles South of STL ont he Mississippi River... I had a Black Electra LP ordered from B&G Music in Belleville, went to pick it up when they said it would be there and they said they didn't have it, not sure when it would come in, I got impatient and started calling around, found this one down at Staten Music in Cahokia, she was my girl, even had my senior pic taken with her.

Iceman,
I like that name; '76 Black Rock! and Pineapple TRC, didn't even notice that it was different.
Dogs? lol, sorry, I don't have hunting dogs, wife and I have a 7 yr old pug-a-poo named Jake, and just got a 7 month old pug/shitzu mix from a shelter in st. louis, named Ivy, (should be Poison Ivy, she's a stinker)
what kind of dogs do you have?

if you notice the yellowed edge on the headstock, this is smoke damage from a fire in '78, our house burned and my Black Rock survived. I'm sure she'll outlive me, wonder where she'll end up?

Your're even closer as the crow flies- I'm actually in Jefferson Co., about 45 miles south of the city. You must be close to the ferry crossing..

I am south of the ferry where the next bridge crosses the river.
How many Electras are in your shelter as we speak?

A problem Joe??

Then that means I have a condition and Arthur is just plain committed (in the worst sense possible) :hyper:

I was just addressing you by your handle huntrz... I didn't know if you had any gun breeds there or not. Just going with an assumption based on the moo-moo looking chew toy in the one pic.

We have 2 Australian Shepherds currently BTW. Thanks for asking! :D

8) Welcome to the Forums and that is a nice Super Rock transitional model you have there. As Ozark stated 1976 and prior models had the open book style(Gibson) headstock and starting in late 1976 early 1977 to avoid any problems they used the headstocks already produced(open Book Gibson Style) and simply made the cut out dip at the top and put them on the production models. Later models have the wave style headstocks. Great players.
Well I guess I must fall into the category of Electra enthusiast extreme as I now have 100+ Electra models in my collection and my goal(lofty as it is) is to aquire one of Each Electra model and color made including the Bass models. Maybe some day I will get close to that mark Oh well it is a fun adventure anyhow. Welcome and thanks for the photos. Arthur aka that crazy Electra guy...mortarman120gang11c

Thanks for sharing your guitar story, love hearing those!

Glad she made it through the fire, I sometimes think of how many great old geetars perish in fires. Makes me sad. :bawl:

Just so you don't feel uncomfortable, we don't all have a lot of Electra's. I have 4, two players and two in project stage.
