I have a X940 Vulcan serial # 23070. Anybody know the year this guitar was made?

Was the serial number on a foil tag or printed on headstock. If it was from a foil tag, you cannot date it by the serial number. Some other ways of determining age must be used. Sometimes in the MPC cavity a build date might be in there (or maybe not). The index of models states that the x940 was made 1980-82 so that might be as close as you can get.

Yes the serial number was on a foil tag and there's no build date anywhere on the guitar. I figured it was early eighties from index model. Thanks.

If you look in the MPC door, there is a white cotton pull strap under the battery-usually there will be a date in ink if it's still readable...

I checked the battery tag and ones missing and the other one is blank. So i'll just go with 1980-1982. Thats all i needed to know. My brother loaned my kramer guitar out and swears he gave it back to me. He replaced my brand new kramer with this electra. Not a bad trade just quite a few years older. Guitar sounds great and plays easy. He's trying to convince me it was made in the 90's and i just thought it was older than that.

Thanks for all your help guys.
