I just scored this 2257. Anyone seen one before? I'm thinking it's a Magnum II from 1974. Can anyone weigh-in here?

It's super clean. All original, too. Weighs 10 pounds so definitely solid.

Congratulations on your new Electra. The torch inlay is one of my favorite Electra Logos and were very short lived. I have this exact model and the mini P90 style pups really do sound superb. The guitar is well balanced and the neck is excellent and smooth to play. It is a bit on the heavy side but balanced well. The fretboard inlays on these models are off the charts and I can say that the one I have has the most beautiful inlays of any of my Electras so they had a super batch for this run I think. Excellent craftsmanship and superb quality and attention to detail on these torch inlay models. You will find this one extreamly hard to put down once you play her for the first time and she will quickly find a place in your music. Congrats again and enjoy.

I got an email from an Electra enthusiast stating the 2257 was likely made by Kasuga as opposed to Matsumoku. Can anyone confirm or deny this info?

That may very well be a true statement as the torch inlay models were very few in production and not seen as much so it may well have been sourced to another manufacturer.

Hello folks. Glad to have found this site. I just picked up a model 2257 with the mini pups. Blond with the torch inlay on the head. Got it in a garage sale of all places. Paid $300 for the guitar with an original Electra rectangular shaped hard case. After reading this site for a bit, I believe I got a good deal. The guy said it is a 1974 edition. It's a great feeling and sounding guitar, and I'm quickly falling in love with it. A couple questions: Does anyone know where to find a serial number on the 2257? I have looked all over it and I can't find one. All I have been able to find is "2257" stamped on the neck plate in the back. And, the pick guard is black, not clear. All of the pictures I have seen of the 2257 have a clear pick guard. Did they sell the 2257 with both clear and black pick guards, or should I consider the black pick guard was a replacement for the clear? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Glad to be here.

These had no serial numbers on them just model number as mentioned. It came with the clear pickguard and I suspect at one time some other player removed it or replaced it with the black one. The headstock and torch inlay are the best way to date these models. Most of the torch inlays were only used a very short time so I would say sometime after the transition years and most likely a 1977-78 as the 1976 and prior models would have had the open book headstock(Gibson)and the older Electra script logo. These are indeed great players and have awesome tone from those pups. welcome to the forums and enjoy.

Thanks mortarman. I appreciate the feed back. It has the open book headstock(Gibson)and the older Electra script logo. The inlay on the script logo is beautiful, as are the fret inlays. It's really a nice guitar to look at, even when not playing it. So, now I know that it's at least pre 1976.
