Yep I can see why that one did not stay around long. With a good cleaning and setup and the battery wire fix she will be good as new. Hope someone here scored this one

There is corrosion on the basically all the metal parts, and you have to wonder if it was stored in a humid basement for a decade or so... Frets will need to be cleaned up, and probably leveled. The strap hanger is in a strange spot. The Battery connector will be easy, I think I have one floating around here in the package still. It's tough to tell from the photos, but the Finish seems to be in really nice shape, I hope it doesn't have any undocumented gashes, it's one of the nicer ones I've seen.

I saw this one and shot the seller a offer basically covering the shipping and he agreed to it within about 5 minutes! Seller only has a feedback of 1... so, we'll see if it shows up in one piece, or at all! Wish me luck fellas, I'm a softy for these odd shaped Mahogany bodied guitars, Mike.

As far as the corrosion/pitting on the parts - some people have a type of acidity or something to their sweat that will corrode up anything. Anything they touch will corrode and eventually pit up. It is remarkable. Just something with their body chemistry.

I have had lots of electras so pitted and corroded that the saddles don't move on the bridge - had one that had a bunch or screws broken off in the saddles. When I run into that I usually wind up replacing the bridge with a new one. Electra hardware was about as good as anyone else's back then, but you frequently find Les Pauls with replaced bridges too after they are that old. The good thing about an electra is if you need to, you can get a good replacement that fits.

But finding a Leslie West that isn't beat to a pulp is a rare find. I really like mine, even though it has major repair work done to it structurally and it will never be in as good of condition as that. You should have a great guitar with just some minor fixes. I think you are "golden" with this one.

Good deal! Hope you like it.

You're telling that to a guy who now has TWO X120s!

Yeah, But you have TWO hands - right? :hyper:

Yes, of course you had one. I forget who has what now. So much buying selling and trading going on. I am now just starting to build my collection back up to the dismay of my wife :-?

Man that thing looks GREAT in the pictures. I just now looked at the link. What a find! It appears to be much better than I was thinking when you described your concerns. I think you will be in good shape. And if you are in a pinch, you can put real grovers on that thing so the keys match.

Yeah, I was thinking if the body is in as nice as shape as we all hope it is, that I'd take the plunge and put a set of real Grovers on there. What do you suggest to clean up the corrosion on the Brass nut and saddles? With the holiday I'm not expecting it to show up until next week, but my mind is already percolating about things.

That's a dangerous thing to 'say' out loud Thorny! I've been saving a really nice Endorser for you, drop me a line and see how close we are price wise! Cheers, Mike.

Blue Magic metal polish cream is what I use on my brass and it does a GREAT job. It is blue though, so don't slop it all over the place or you will have a blue mess to clean up. But it does a GREAT job on brass nuts and saddles. That brass really POPS when it is shined up, plus the slots are a lot slicker if they are clean in the nut. Then apply some big bends "nut sauce" to the slots (hey, I don't take responsibility for the name). It tends to stay nice and shiny for a while afterwards too. And you can use to polish other metals too. Good stuff, not expensive, bought it at Walmart. I suspect other brands are fine too.

Now I let it slip, I am in trouble!

The Leslie showed up, and O M G is the finish nice! There is one tiny chip, probably 1/16th of an inch in diameter near the bottom strap hanger, other than that, all the paint is there. It has a few dings here and there and some scuffs around the edges, but one of the nicest LW's I've seen.

The metal on the other hand is pretty scary, it looks like another storage victim here, lots of oxidation and pitting going on. It appears that some of the frets have lifted up, not sure if that is due to the moisture or what. I'd be interested in any suggestions as how to address these, I don't really want to start whacking at the frets with a hammer unless that is in fact the way to get them reseated again. I've already replaced the 9volt connector, and all the electronics and the included modules work perfectly.

Turns out that the funky front strap hanger is original, at least there isn't any other hole in the upper Horn where we'd normally see one... not sure what to make of it. The date on the cloth battery pull says 12/28/79. Now the tear down and clean up begins, already have a couple ideas for some cool photographs, stay tuned. The finish is so clean that I can actually make out 7 - 10 different strips of Mahogany making up the neck, very unusual laminated neck design that I hadn't noticed before. Really happy with this example on first sight, and reasonably confident that I can get the metal parts looking better with a bit of sweat equity. A very hearty Cheers from Michigan, Mike.

I'd try a small brass hammer to research the frets as long as they are not bent up from one side.
