... but it is a Matsumoku, and in need of some TLC!! :D

The restore is easy, but the finish is to be unique. What do you fellas reckon I should do with it??

Here's where I'm at, fellas; I'm gonna do a purple burst over a silver/lavender pearl base with some added artwork.

MMK 45 has values of 12.8/6.3ohms!! Fretboard needs some work; you blokes got any bright ideas on this?? Just sand back lightly and refinish?

Suggestions, please fellas!!!

:hyper: 8) Looks like a winner design to me. I would think the blue burst or some color representing the blue of the pacific ocean and the straight on view would look very nice although I do like the island view also. The headstock is really nice. Keep us posted.

Maybe the corsair at the neck and a flaming Betty bomber or zero at the tailpiece? This is going to be one nice tribute guitar. I wish your father and my father could have talked as they were both flying from the same base. The generation of WWII veterans need to be remembered by all as they made the sacrifices that kept the world free.

Yeah... the old guys are dying off now and that generation will be gone forever!

Yep, Arthur; you're dead right about the blue... I shall make it so! I never thought about blue as I have 2 blue bursts already, but this has to be blue! And.... I think I shall sand and tint the fretboard blue as well!

No burning Betties on this one; I may do a discreet WW2 NZ Pacific roundel between the pickup and the neck, though....

That would look cool also or maybe an aerial photo of Green Island and the base. I have a Black and white aerial photo of the Island that shows both of the runways and lagoon.

Looks great, never saw a blue tint fret board but I do believe it will work well.

Thanks!

Blue fretboard?! Look no further....

... however, I've decided against it; it'd be too much, I think!

I think this is a great theme,if it comes out as good as your swamp burst it should be sweeet.... Maybe some very small Japanese Zero kill flags for position markers? Dunno, but looking forward to seeing your progress-I think those guys were truly the greatest generation, hard shoes to fill...
Joe

8) Superb job on that one. Looks great and is a tribute to your father and all who served. That Corsair looks great swooping in out of the blue.

The F4U was one of my favorite WWII fighters. Looks good John!

What a great concept! Looks super! I've never seen a chamfer like that at the nut. Hopefully it's not a problem. If it is, I'd be imclined to try and get a nice square cut in there with a coping or scroll saw and replace it with maple or maybe even brass. Seems to me a nut would be happier with something solid there.

Nice, and you really did an excellent job on that burst. Very classy.

Same concerns about the rounded off fingerboard at the nut. Even some wood filler would be good there. Not sure if the board is "bad enough" for refreshing otherwise. To do it right would be to pull all the frets, sand, and refinish - quite a job. It does not look that bad. I don't know though, although I have tackled a lot, I haven't specifically done that.

I really like the overall look a lot. You did an excellent job.

I agree with Jead, to square it out and get a new nut.
