I like the natural ash top on this one in spite of the blemishes. Nice strap button too. Hey Iceman, is this pawn shop anywhere near you in Minnesota?

Is that the correct position for the neck joint or is it a repair?

Are you referring to the change in color/wood on the back of the neck? If you are looking at that, it is normal. See the one from the index of models. http://www.rivercityamps.com/electrapag ... 004-050140

alright, considered bidding on this one because it is an excellent model and didn't look too hard to fix - but didn't - I figured someone else on the page was bidding on it and I don't need to be greedy :D

Anybody pick this one up? Looks to be a nice score and probably not too hard to fix.

Thanks for the encouragement just recently got into these guitars, got a decent deal on the 310 and a phaser and two fuzzes on ebay. I have had to experiment with compensated the nut to get the G string sounding right on the second and fourth frets. Hope the 940 is good.

I got the 500k pot in, it didn't make much difference, also I think I ordered the wrong taper. I got audio and its cutting the volume hard right off the bat. Also looks like i got the wrong size pickup rings. they are for epiphone but are too wide unless the 940 difference they are the wrong ones. I hope this isn't a prequel of whats to come with the 940.

If it had 50K pots in it, 500K would make a big difference. If it had 500K in it already, no, there wouldn't be much of a difference. As far as Audio (A500K) vs. Linear (B500K) there is a difference in taper, and that is strictly a preference thing. Most guitars used to use audio tapers, but I noticed new Epiphones are using Linear tapers on their volume pots and audio tapers on their tone pots. That could be whatever you like really, and if in doubt, you can get alphas or similar online and probably get two of each (audio and linear) and you won't be out much. Probably less than $15 for all four. If you go with CTS, the sizes might be a bit wider (where they go through the body) and they WOULD be more expensive. But if you don't like the audio, the linears are the same price.

Use a meter to measure your old pots - with nothing connected to them measure both outside terminals resistance, and it should be close to what the value is. Measure your new ones too just for good measure. You might read anywhere from 400-600K for a 500K pot. If you don't have a meter, you can get one at Walmart, harbor freight, or radio shack for less than $10 (harbor freight has them for about $3).

Next, the pickup rings. I just did some quick measurements on a few guitars I have here. The electras seem to be about 3 and 1/2" wide, and so are the gibsons. I have an epihone here, and one other guitar, and it has a ring that is 3 and 5/8" wide. The 2 recent Chinese Epiphones I have have the wider one. Looks like the Epiphones are non-standard. My other imports (except one) are all 3 1/2". So, you will need to get measurements of your rings before you buy. Seems that some imports are 1/8" wider than others (Epiphones for sure, at least my 2). There area LOT of manufacturers making these - and obviously get the flat or curved variety that you may need. But the 3 1/2" variety seems more common on the guitars I own, on the Gibsons, Electras, Deans, Westones, Ibanez.

Nothing like having an Electra being more accurate a copy of a Gibson than their own brand (at least on the pickup rings) :D

Why would they do that? Because they can cut the holes for the pickups and be off a lot more, and still hide it by that wide pickup ring.

Thanks much for the reply, the volume pot in there was a non original 250k but had a nice smooth taper all the way down to off.

250K would roll off highs on a humbucker for sure, better off with your 500K.

Is the 250K marked with an A or a B? If is it A it is audio, if it is B it is Linear. If it says L that would be Log and another term for an audio taper. I seriously doubt reverse audio so we won't even discuss that (marked as RA). Custom tapers are usually a variant of an audio taper. Audio tapers can vary (thus the "custom" taper) but I usually think a custom taper if frequently just a relabeled standard audio taper. There is a lot of BS out there floating around about pots.

Testing the taper on a Pot if it isn't clearly marked (is it Audio or Linear)?

If it isn't marked, you can test it by testing the three terminals on the pot. If you put the pot in its middle setting and measure between either outside terminal to the middle one (with nothing connected to it) the readings will be close to the same if it is linear. If it is analog, one side will differ a lot from the other side.
