I'm somewhat mystified that this didn't shoot out the door already - I've seen 300 series sell for more (rarely). Not a knock on 300's - as I explained somewhere else it came down to this and my X330 and I'm just far too attached to my 330 to let it go. There are roughly a kajillion 300's out there and maybe a few hundred Leslies.....I probably need to raise my price to drive that point home. :D

Thanks for the kind words Thorny.

For anyone considering this guitar - I'd act fast. When my financial pendulum swings back I'll be taking it off the "for sale" list. Consider it to be a temporarily "endangered species".

I disagree show me a 300 that went for more? Kajillion is maybe a slight exaggeration.

I've seen 300 series go for more than that starting price, several times I've seen them go in the $800+ range if they were very nice. They have to be in really good shape because there are so many more of them. The prices on 300s are a little depressed at the moment in my opinion, so I have not noticed that recently.

As far as Kajillion? Since it isn't a real number I think the point is that there are many times the number of 300 series guitars out there than Leslie West models, and there are. We don't have exact numbers - the numbers don't exist. But I have been collecting these for over 15 years. Leslie West models are rare compared to 300 series. They didn't make them as long as they made the 300 series as well (you can confirm that by how many catalogs 300 series guitars were in vs. the Leslie Wests. I probably have owned around 20 or so 300 series over the years, and only owned this one Leslie West model. I have had every model they make too in that series - a 300 series was the 2nd Electra I had ever owned (first was an Elvin Bishop). The MPC electras were my "thing" that got me started collecting electras so long ago. I have owned every headstock style (at least I think so), and I think I have owned every model just about except the derringer. I can't bring myselft to pay more for a rare derringer than a more common but real Gibson Explorer. But I also sold my explorers because I had trouble getting used to the way they feel when you play them - love the looks but didn't like playing them.

I have seen more Leslie West models in the last year than I have ever seen (I don't know why for certain). Many of them were SOLD before I actually knew they were up for sale. Others had been just bad timing, I was low on funds when one came up or in this case I bought one already. Some Electras are rare and desirable and fetch higher prices - while others are not as rare or possibly not as desirable so they bring a bit less. It is supply and demand. Leslies are fairly uncommon, and downright rare in very good to excellent condition. They go for quite a bit more.

Sometimes it takes patience for the one right buyer. It should sell. People are distracted right before Black Friday with many sellers trying to get their attention. I hope things pickup a bit so you can keep it. Getting things like this back can be hard to do later.

I agree with you there - and don't like the *feel* of an explorer. So if I buy a derringer, it will not get played. The closest I currently own is a Wasburn A20.

I just quoted you but totally agree, even though these are great guitars when you start getting in to gibson prices and know that you'll be hard pressed to get what you paid for, there over priced.

Every guitar is different. I've said it a million times. I've had $1500 guitars that were poor in just about every respect and $300 guitars that were excellent in every respect. Lots of reasons for this. First thing I look for is build quality - and I think we can safely say that Electra is consitently very good - after that, before I even plug in, I want to feel a guitar resonate in my hands when I play it. If that's all good I know there's a real good chance that it would in fact be an ibstrument worth looking at. Electronics and hardware can be changed - a good chunk of wood and a nice neck really can't be. My $.02.

Oh man, I have wanted one of these for a long time but our landlord just told us he is selling our apartment (after assuring us he never would many times). So the moving fund is where my $$'s will go. Good luck with the sale or even better, good luck with you financial situation so you can keep her.
