I think my pointy xpw might sound better than my 420. I live in an apartment so I gotta play quiet but I think my futura might take the cake.

You're an idiot - really. Ok - I don't really mean that. I said it because you were asking for it....

Those are two pretty different guitars and I'll bet each of them really shine at certain styles. It's all a matter of taste and a kajillion other variables. Different amps, volume, even strings can change sound drastically. I've never played either an X1PW or a 420 but I'd venture to say the X1 has punchier pickups but the 420 probably has better sustain. Is your 420 a black or VS? Got pictures?

I know people tend to hold onto their Futura's so there must be something there. I never cared for the pointy models much - maybe because I just can't shred and I don't have the hair to fake it. I could get away with a 420 though 'cause I know a couple Jazz chords. :)

X1pw vs x420. I'm afraid to [Foul Language Used] up my 420. The neck on the pw rules and was the reason I had to haveit . I'm no shredder. I love 70s soft rock ala alan parsons project. The cure, ariel pink, sonic youth. That sort of thing. I think I'm gonna get a potato next

Before MTV, nobody new what you were playing anyway. So everybody be happy. The last show I saw in Nashville was Peter Frampton On his Frampton Comes Alive 2 tour. He played quit a few different guitars and the song didnt always match the stereo type of the guitar. Play whats comfortable. They are all COOL.

Very Nice Custom Pro you have there, I'm jealous! Does it have the push/pulls on the tone pots? That's a great option, and I wish I had one. Lots of players like the necks on the Electra pointy models, and they're very similar to the Phoenix necks, which were very consistent. I've found the 'Pointys' to be very versatile despite their dated Hair-Metal appearance, capable of making lots of tones, not just the saw blade on steel sounds we associate them with.

Nothing to be ashamed of, however if you want something with a more traditional look, try a Phoenix sometime, the neck and electronics are basically the same I think you'll find. If you can bag a Phoenix with the H/S/H setup, you'll have even more tonal variety at your fingertips thanks to the sophisticated switching.

Nice collection start Sir, tell us if you bring home any more! Cheers, Mike.

It does have the push pulls. Quite a wide variety of sounds and great neck. I am glad to hear of the comparison of the x1pw to the phoenix's. I am hoping to find an x165 prefereably in the metallic green finish. Other models I would walk over my mother for: an Outlaw, vulcan, x935, aw heck...pretty much any model. :P

If you look at the post near the bottom of this thread you will see an x135 that used to be metallic green. viewtopic.php?f=15&t=6235&hilit=Burn+victim

That Phoenix is known as the "Burn Victim".

Oh man, what a shame. I imagine that green finish wasn't real popular.

Since no else else has made the move...

Uhm, when you get tired of that crummy sounding x420 taking up much needed space in your apartment, let me know. I just might be able to squeeze it in at my place. ;-)
