I bought a V guitar with case back in the summer that was smoked up pretty good. The guitar cleaned up nice and after using all the different cleaners and oils to get it back in shape it smell's ok. The case how ever still reeks and has been living in the garage. I thought I had it aired out good but after I opened it up for a few minutes it was back to the garage.
It has the wool like lining in it. I have used carpet cleaner, frebreeze and a little oxy cleaner. Any ideas? Its really a cool looking case. The out side I washed off with a mild soap and dressed with protectant and cleaned the hinges and latches with brasso to get a little shine on them. The lining fluffed up a little after cleaning it but still smells.

Any help would be great.

Well its hints from Heloise time: Cut up a couple of apples, get a plastic bag and put several small holes in it. Put it in the case. Close the case and check it once a week to see that the apples aren't rotting.

I've read that spraying with white vinrgar will do the trick and pretty fast too. Also you can try ground coffee in a perforated bag. I know some guys who clean up after fires and floods etc. They take the house contents and put them in a room full of ozone for some number of days. If you happen to have a roomful of ozone I'd try that. Sunshine and carpet shampoo has worked for me in the past but I'm always careful not to get things too wet in order to avoid any warping or glue issues. Whatever method you use, expect to do it a few times.....

Throw some dryer sheets in there and close it up,have had good luck with them in a week or so.

Thanks guys. Giving the apples their second go-round. This thing was/is pretty bad, and I used to smoke! The outside of the case is good, its that wool stuff inside. Remember how Bars used to smell?

Update, The apples are working. :D First round was an apple sliced in a plastic bag with holes. Could tell it was starting to work. 2nd round, I cut the apple in half and put it on a small piece of cardboard. half in the storage compartment with the compartment lid open and the other in the V cut out. Getting better. 3rd round, did the same. Checked today and its smelling pretty good. Like apple pie. The garage is pretty cool right now so the apples arent getting mushy. I'll check it again in a few days to see if it needs another round.
Thanks again for the tips guys.
