OK... electrics all working properly, so YAY, me!! :D A couple of slightly dodgy solder joints later, a little insulation and Wa-hay!!

Weight of the Lady is 3.5kg (7lb 11oz) and the weight of the Westone Spectrum GT I have at hand is 3.7kg (8lb 2oz). By way of comparison, my Westone Spectrum SP1012 is 4.2kg and Vantage Avenger AV310 3.1kg.

Thanks for the pats on the back, fellas, but the kudos go to my painting bloke who matched the colour in a heartbeat by eye! This is the bloke here...

http://www.paintdoctor.com.au/

... he's the fella who did my 'Corsair' Vantage Avenger and shot the burst onto my Urchin. Top fella!!

This bloody jack plate could be a sticking point; when I get Arthurs pix and measurements I'll probably turn into the biggest whiney bludger you've ever met on this forum because I do think it's an orphan; it is wider than an Explorer one but not as long and it's curved... so those of you with a spares box.... let's be hearing from you!!

WOW holy junk what a collection! :hyper:

I would never put them that close to the pool, makes my heart tighten up just looking at it :eek2:

sorry to hear about the intonation, hope you can get that straightened out!

EDIT: ill have to see what mine weighs and compare. It seems hefty for the size of it, maybe im just too scrawny though lol

hey, do you have a post of that input jack area of the guitar?

If it is a square one that is bent at an angle, then it can be inverted by flipping it?

There also are the strat recessed "football" shaped ones (American Football, sorry)?

And there are the oval shaped ones, and they could be flipped too?

There is also the cup style like a tele as well.

Probably it is one of these, but I never have seen it to know. Guitar Fetish has all 4 styles, in the black, chrome, and gold finishes (and possibly plastic too for the square one).

Wow. Yes; they do help...a lot!! I had assumed the one I had was a bodged up repair job but looking at yours, I think it's the OEM piece, albeit absolutely munted!

Image

... it's had it's edges very crudely chamfered - I could do a better job with my eyes closed, a blunt spoon and an arm removed! - and the screw holes are no longer anywhere near square so I've made a nice new one from a piece of alloy...

...Thanks a million, Arthur!

OK, troops... last set, I promise...

it's done; everything's fitted up, intonated and eminently playable....

Impressions are that the photos do not even roughly do justice to the colour - and it's a dull day here today so we aren't getting the sunshine shimmer!

I find it a little unwieldy to play, to be honest, but then I find all of my pointies a little weird becasue I've got so much time with "normal" guitars under my belt, I suspect!

It sounds just like it should - even with that tiny w/shop amp! - with the stratty tones readily available, the Gibson tones also readily available and then all of it's own tones as well; gee, that switching set up is clever, and what more can anyone say about MMK pickups.... beautiful sound, just beautiful! These ones don't seem to be as "in yer face" as some others I have - notably the Corsair Avenger which will, given half a chance, tear yer nuts clean off!! - but more bell-like... articulate with less raw thunder, if that makes any sense!

Anyway, I'm done with it now, though I'll have to build a case for it, and I'll take a couple more pics when the sun comes out with my Westone X300 Pantera, also in pink!

8) Very nice work and glad to see it is ready to enjoy a new lease on life again. You will find in my opinion that the lady is very comfortable to play when seated. She rests on the leg very nicely. Superb work on this one. Congrats

Looks brand new John, what a looker. Like it stepped off of the shelf in the '80's into 2014.

I think probably better than new  Those were made well but they were mass-produced. This one has had some special tweaking and attention. That attention to detail really shows, taking a nice rare guitar, and taking it a step above.

Think about it. The finish is nicer. The wiring is now back to stock but shielded a lot better - performing at its best. The setup is definitely better as I am sure he now has it setup so it can be intonated properly, something that could not be done at first. We saw how that input jack was done, much cleaner than stock. This is not going into the setup minutia - where I am sure this will have the neck angle right, the right amount of bow, level frets, nut cut correctly, and other details that even if gone over quickly in a stock guitar never get the attention they need. This guitar has had the works while keeping it as stock as possible (or at least in a stock form, the paint job looks stock but probably is a lot better).

I tackle a lot on my restorations but I don't go to this level. Great job sir! I am certain you have the finest Electra "lady" on the planet.

Now I hate to say this, but are you are missing an MPC in your collection? That just won't do :D

Nice job John. We love seeing your "pointies". I would love to check them out when I make a return trip down under. On my only other trip there I didn't leave the Sydney area.

I am also burdened with the curse of no MPC in my collection. (That is on my list)

The problem likely is there are no really pointy MPCs - not really, except maybe the outlaw bass - that might qualify. Oh yeah, and lest I forget the Derringer model. That one is hard to find, but hey, he did find a "lady".

Stop it; you're making me blush!! It is true that I've done a fair amount of fiddly work on this girl, but the nut is still to be done as it is cut a little deep for my tastes, and I'll get around to it .... at some stage!! Yes, the neck is pretty right with a tiny amount of throw and the pick in behind the neck made intonation possible; good suggestion, chaps!!
However, it's the cosmetic stuff like putting Switchmaster knobs on and cleaning and painting the bridge for that blackout effect that gives it the "Wow!" factor, eh; easy work that I'm good at!
Don't know about the frets; I'm used to the super jumbos on my "player" Westone, so these are a little skinny for my tastes - a quick 'tap'n'polish' was as much as they got as a straightedge down the neck showed no high or low points. The frets do not encourage me to play fast, single note runs!!
Yes; you're right, Thorny - I don't have an MPC! I'm caught in a cleft stick with regards to those as the principle doesn't light my candle but I do like the look of the Vulcan and the Workingman as guitars, eh!! Biding my time....

Any of you fellas find yourselves down this way and in my vicinity, rock on up!!

Thank you all for the pats on the back; once again, the painter deserves the kudos; all I did is what any of you blokes would have done!!
